The wife complains that I don't get excited about much of anything these days. She's not wrong. I've bought 60 cars so far in my life, the largest number of them were BMWs.

Yesterday I bought number 61.

It's a new 2021 M4 in Brooklyn Grey. 6-speed manual. It's in Asheville, NC and I'm in Cary (near Raleigh) which is a solid 4 hours away if you never stop to eat or pee or get gas. I'm old, so I make lots of stops.

The wife is out of town all week so we can't go there and get it, flying there is expensive and time consuming (no direct flights) and I really don't like flying anyway and I hate wearing a mask for 6 hours, so I'm having the car shipped.

And I'm excited. I'm actually excited about my new car! Woo hoo!

Natch I'll post pics when it arrives.

Same! I am not too old yet but had a lot of cars too and don’t get excited much! I recently ordered a frozen dark grey 2021 M3 6 speed and I don’t remember being this excited ever! Not sure why, maybe it’s a covid thing? 🤷*♂️ My last car was an F90 M5 with european delivery and I wasn’t that pumped about it like I am for the G80... something must be very special about this M3 and my inner soul can see it! 💪😅

Congratulations! Nice choice going 6MT. While the car isn’t the fastest ever, the “wring it out” redline shift experience is surprisingly good. M-Mode HUD shift lights work well to guide you towards optimal performance. Enjoy!

LOL, I'll share that with my wife. We've been together so long, I can't remember...

I have had a lot of non-BMWs, Porsche, Audi, etc. And the only BMWs that I have repeat bought were a few E39 M5s, because they were the pinnacle. Oh, and the E28 because, E28.

Actually, if you want a new RWD manual transmission car, there aren't that many choices any more. And I've BTDT with the Corvette, Mustang and Porsche (which have just gotten too dear).

This is my issue with Porsche - the cars are amazing. No one will deny the 911 is a classic, drives great, etc etc.

But the 911s is just so wildly pricy. I spec'd out a 911s to match the features in the M3 80 I wound up ordering. Sticker price? $135,000.

I get the 911 is amazing. I'll even admit it's probably better than the M3. But is it $50,000 better? No way.

Maybe in the fall as more people get their cars, we can have our own little G80/82/83 cars and coffee in RTP.

I'm in! I've only seen one other G80 around here and that was two days ago for the first time.

Agree completely. The base price is high enough, but the options are ridicules. The S I would order--and very easy on the options except Sports Chrono and performance exhaust, would sticker right at 130. Try to find one at a dealer that isn't loaded. Interesting German Youtube video--in German, M4 Comp versus 911S with sport chrono. 911 was .4 quicker to 62--as expected with rear engine, but only .2 in the 1/4. Did 60 punches in 4th, 5th and 6th gear. M4 left it for dead in 4th and 5th, and steadily pulled away (low rpm, obviously) in 6th. Figure the 911 was ~ 130-135K. More and more pleased with my M4C. 911s used to be a stretch from a Corvette. Now, forget it.

I actually contemplated that, but four hours in some vaping dude's vomit-covered Kia doesn't appeal to me.

I hope it gets here tomorrow, weekend at the latest.

Heck, try to find one at a dealer, period. Despite the ridiculous pricing, the economy, parts shortages and production outages has most Porsche dealers with nothing in stock but SUVs and those electric things.

LOL, we're all whores of some kind.

I wasn't clear in my post, apparently. 21 of the 60 were BMWs. Other brands of note were 6 Porsches, 5 Corvettes, a few domestics and some fun stuff, like a TR-6, Grand National.

And some motorcycles.

I’m glad you posted this. I was thinking to go to Asheville on Friday to see this M4. I’m leaning toward a BG M4 with Kyalami interior, but I haven’t seen BG in person yet. What’s your opinion on how the paint looks in real life?

I actually have not seen it in person, so I'll let you know after it gets here.

Yes, I bought a new $80K car without seeing it, without test driving it, and without much of a discount. Did I fall on my head and not realize it?
