Differences between Extended and Full Leather?

What's the difference between extended and full leather? When I cycle between the two options on the configurator for Kyalami orange, the only difference I can see is that the lower dash (e.g., glovebox, underneath steering wheel) turns orange otherwise everything else looks the same. Considering it's a $2500 option, I'm sure there's more to it than that.

In the configurator you will notice stitching along the top dash and upper door panels when selecting full leather. Those areas are soft-touch plastic when you have extended, but are upgraded to leather with full, in addition to the color matched lower dash in leather.

In the competition version, the knee pads are also changed to leather when you upgrade to full.

Full leather all the way. The dash and interior starts to look pretty 3 series without it imo. A must have

How do you possibly go on living afterward?

I didn't get full leather on mine and I'm ok with that but I'll think harder about it next time

I have it on mine, although wouldn't have initially chosen it. First time with full leather and it is A LOT of leather. I get the price difference now, there is a massive difference. It definitely does add the "premium" feel. Slightly concerned about how well it will wear over a long time, but it is nice. If a vegan comes for a ride in the car it could get interesting, given they're effectively cocooned in probably a dozen cows

In my opinion full leather is worth every cent of it's low extra cost. It makes the car a lot more premium inside in my opinion. The differences are : leather on top and bottom parts of the dashboard. Leather on the top part of the doorpanels, leather knee pads on the competition models. Worth every cent and i strongly recommend it if your budget allows it.

I don't like the way they change the color of the lower dash area with full leather. It'd be too much orange.

Absolutely agree!
It is actually making me choose black interior because of the two tone look of the lower dash.

I got the 'extended Merino leather' included on my M4 Comp. It is very high quality, if you search Merion leather, seats, console lid, arm rests, door pulls and center parts of the door are all leather. Leather dashes are problematic, if your car is out in the sun a lot. Definitely need a sunshade. Plastic is high quality and doesn't bother me. You can always get a 911 and have leather a/c vents...

My 13 year old M3 has extended leather and it's in great shape... 8/10 at least.. the surfaces that are constantly touched (drivers bolster) haven't held up quite as well. Gives the interior a more finished look, worth it imho.

My local dealer happened to have the exact car in the showroom that I would have ordered down to every option with the exception of the full leather so…I'm currently driving it instead of refreshing my order status on mybmw.com but if I ordered another car I would definitely go for the full leather, I really don't like the rubberized dash parts.

Only reason I won't be going with full leather.

I'm just super OCD about having a full black dash.

Going with Kyalami , but full leather is too orange for me.

The dash is always in your POV & I won't be able to stand it.

It contrasts and makes the seats pop more as well, at least in my eyes.

But with that being said, I totally agree with everyone going full leather is a definite upgrade.

If not for the reason mentioned I would definitely check that box.

Coming from an M2 and having Merino Leather seats is already nice but no way I'm paying 4k Cad for dash and top of doors, at 1-2k maybe.

Second reason is going with black interior you notice the full leather a lot less.

So no performance benifits, a really really small comfort benifits, little bit more weight, super expensive for how much you get. 4k will go towards partial PPF and Ceramic coating.

The full leather always has a black dash, IIRC.

I think it helped last gen more than this one. It‘s still worth it if you can spec it; it’s a pure nice-to-have. Mine doesn’t have it (bought an in-stock car), and I don’t mind nor notice its absence. If/when I swap for an LCI/CS/CSL model, I’ll place an order and get the full just because.
