If I had another car and didn't need the practicality, I wouldn't be getting a G8x anyway. I'd be buying a Cayman/Boxster/911. The whole point of this car is to do everything well. Obviously M3.

I like the M3 taillights better.

Strange they are the same mechanically but at the same time so different. I see the new G82 in both RWD and AWD version getting a lot of traction with 911 prospective buyers. Not because it's better but because it's an incredible value.

The M3 will just continue to dominate it's segment like it always did.

- M4 if you want the sportier version
- M3 if you want the practical version

One or the other, you can't lose.

M3 for me

- 2 more doors
- 1 more seat
- Better cohesive design including more aggressive rear wheel arches and side character lines
- M3 badge and history
- If you want the best drivers' coupe M makes get the M2. If you want the best sedan, get the M3

M4 lines just don’t cut it. There isn’t a continuous design line from the front arch trailing to the rear. It’s broken up in the middle like WTF. The M3 has a line to follow from front to rear. Looks significantly better IMO.

M3 because I have a couple of kids and it's just easier. That said I'm not opposed to owning an M4.

I think it really comes down to 2 dimensions
1)backseat, how often you will use it and how accessible it needs to be
2) style preference, lower roof and more organic shape of the coupe or the more hot rod/steroid look of the sedan

For me with an infant car seat and soon to transition to rear face convertible car seat the M3 is the only option I would consider

Can't speak for the G8x gen yet but BMW produced far less F80s then F82s as well as ending production 2 years earlier.[/QUOTE]

Based on just what I have seen listed on my local dealerships website, the M4 is definitely outnumbering the M3. Last I checked they had about 11 M4s incoming compared to 2 M3s.

1. I loved the E92 coupe but already in the F80 I felt it looked slightly better than F82. G80 looks miles better than the G82 imho.
2. I need the 4 doors quite often.
3. Did I mention looks already?

Currently in an F82 and probably gonna switch to the G80 for the following reasons:
1. more practical and easier to carry people and cargo around with 2 extra doors
2. Tired of parking in the city with big ol coupe doors to get out of
3. that booty

I have yet to vote because I don't know but here are my thoughts.

For M4
1. Larger and frameless window without B-pillar on your ear
2. Shorter overall height, better roof profile
3. Doesn't have the M3 rear bumper Jay Leno chin

For M3
1. Less fender gap than M4
2. Them hips don't lie
3. Can actually take passengers
You have the X3M already so I would think it would be M4 automatically. You know that's what you want...

M4 for me because of the bodyline, taillights, and frameless windows.

I'd get an M2 if I could stand to have 3 cars, but I could never daily the M2, I didn't even like to daily my F80 after a few months. I have an F92 for now, but my next move will likely be to the G82 unless the G87 becomes something I could daily with the new interior. I highly doubt the G87 will get to that point for me, but the G82 seems like it will work just fine.

1. I like the body line of the G82 better than the G80, something just seems off with the G80 for me. It's not necessarily bad, just exaggerated in some ways that don't sit well with me. I did prefer the F80 over the F82 at most angles, though.
2. While I do have multiple kids, rarely is more than 1 in the car with me (literally happened 3 times in the last 3 years), we have another car for that purpose. I still need to fit at least one child in case I'm dropping them off/picking them up while I happened to have the car, or if I was going to an event I needed/wanted it for that the younger one is interested in attending (e.g. track day, cars and coffee, etc.).
3. Frameless doors and a B-pillar out of sight are pretty big in my book, even though the C-pillar visibility suffers.

I have 2 kids (age 7 & 3) so the M3 is the logical & practical choice but if I thought the M4 looked better I would've considered it even at a premium. That said, I like the M3 better as its lines and more boxy dimensions give it a more aggressive look versus the M4 in my opinion. I thought the same about the F8x generation by the way.

I do like the frameless windows on the M4 and of course the larger doors/windows provide better unobstructed view during driving. But that's about it, everything else on the M3 wins in my book.

I originally was going to order an M4, mostly because of looks. I rarely need the back seats, but I still commute to work and I put my murse and lunch and jacket all in the back seat, and that's much easier to do with a four door. And there are rare occasions where I need to take people out to dinner, and the wife has her little 240i so that won't work unless our dinner guests are really tiny. Our kids are grown and they won't fit.

So I'm leaning toward the M3 now. Plus, the cost savings will cover most of the Executive Package.

I have plenty of time to decide, since my local dealer has no allocations and none of the dealers I've spoken to so far will discount the cars.

I am definitely of the age and within the time period with kids on the horizon in my next note where a 4-door/M3 makes sense. Also why I was considering the X3&4M before the confirmation of an AWD G82 being an option.

For me, the reasons to get an M3 are:

- The extra doors. It is very convenient to have the easy access and extra space in the back.

On the other hand, reasons to get an M4:

- It's a proper looking sports car. I just cannot get motivated by the look of the G80 any more than I did the F80 or 4-door E90 before that. They NEVER look as sporty to me as the coupe. Aggressive lines? Sure, but bulky, not better.

- There's no gain in seats and minimal interior gain. The M3 still doesn't have a middle seat, so overall cargo and passenger space difference is negligible. When was the last time I even had an adult in the backseat of my car? I'm not an Uber.

- I'm used to living with a coupe for years. Squeezing things in, putting things into the back seat, etc. So has my Mrs. via our long road trips.

- We have a second car. Obviously not everyone has this option, but when we need it, we have an SUV. I remember growing up as a kid and the ride in my dad's BMW coupe vs. the "family car" was a treat. It'll be for my rugrats too.

- What do I want to go on drives in and look out at in my parking space? This gets back at item #1, but I just love the lines, energy, and sleekness of a coupe so much better than anything with 4-doors.

The M3 is the more unique package. M4 if you don't intend to frequently carry rear passengers (my choice). I prefer the B-pillar placement and the larger aperture for getting in and out. Frameless windows. Also prefer the look; coupes will always look more sporty to me.

M4 for me, any why: simple
1. no kids.
2. have another four door car.
3. Sports cars to be always have two doors.

M4 just a coupe guy

I'd end up in a m3 if I had kids though

Idk why people debate so heavily about the looks, they're both good looking. I think more people like the m3 because of the back end looking more aggressive but it's also just a confirmation bias because more people prefer it due to the practicality, they really are both great looking cars, I think the m4 gets hate and picked on for its body lines or whatever because it's less practical.

My f82 m4 is meaty from the back, yeah the f80 has cool arches but the f82 is unmistakable as an M as the g82 is it's just that the 4er in general is meaty compared to 3er, so the m3 has more of a distinction in terms of its look as compared to the base models

Having read those comments as to why the G80 is hugely favored over the G82, I'm surprised how they have always been true with the previous generations but yet the 2 door model was far more popular.

Likely just the difference between enthusiasts and people that think it's a cool car buying it. There are many less enthusiasts, but most here are and know the M3's niche.

I think a fair amount of the people that are on here and looking at a G8x now, are looking at it for their DD replacement as well, so they're looking for the more practical car to begin with. A good portion of the enthusiast G82 buyers still have some time on their 2019-2020 M4 leases, have some more competition to look at, and/or want to get some hands-on experience before they look more seriously.

We are 100 votes in and have a very clear 80% M3 and 20% M4. Surprising to me as I would have guessed it would be more 60/40.
