Recommendations for wheel locks
As the title says would appreciate any recommendations for black wheel locks.
Didn’t even cross my mind as I assumed they would be factory installed. None on my new M3 Thanks to Floridagator for brining this to mind when he asked about wheel locks in the tire thread. https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=31

Wheel locks from factory?
Jumping in here as well, I'm really curious to know if anyone is getting their car delivered with locks from the factory.
I found this video showing 4-Series being built with wheel locks: https://youtu.be/0O30mE3AqIk?t=151 I was really surprised by this. I don't like wheel locks, so I'm hoping the car doesn't come with them. |

My G80 M3 Comp came with wheel locks. They are listed on the sticker as an option at $155.0. I did not order the car didn't want to wait 3 to 5 months as I was quoted by my dealer so I picked up on of the ones they had on the lot. I also got the floating hub caps also $155.0 worthless but very cool. Also got the all weather mats at $260.0. I would not have order any of these option, but they are a nice to have.

I have a few issues with wheel locks:
1) They outrageously priced. Dealers everywhere (not just BMW) love them because they cost <$20 but the dealers charge customers $100+ 2) I know that the production plants are using highly-calibrated DC nutrunner five-bolts-at-a-time torque drivers. I don't want the dealer undoing the properly-torqued wheel bolts. I once took delivery of a X3 M40i with wheel locks, and they were all *finger* tight. Don't think that just because it's a BMW dealer that they have any competent technicians... |

Wheel locks did not come on my M3 Comp either. I purchased the set from the BMW dealership for $50 and they will install them for free when I do my break-in service.

Who creates the MSRP sticker, is it BMW on the plant in Germany or is it the dealer. If is created in Germany then is BMW who over charged for these wheel locks as they are listed on the sticker at $155.0

So... it really isn't that difficult to install them yourselfs... get a torque wrench and set it to the right spec...
For the OP: you can check Tirerack for other options besides OEM, but the OEM one would match with the other bolts more. If you convert to studs, you'll open yourself with a lot more selection. Last edited by E90M3velocity; 04-09-2021 at 06:33 PM.. |

Sorry to re-open this thread but are the Factory lug nuts on the G8X any good? My 2 previous cars, 2015 Ford Focus ST & 2022 STI had notoriously bad lug nuts from the factory. My G80 is going to be delivered sometime next week and I’d like to know if I should get some aftermarket lug nuts or if the factory ones are good.
Thanks! |

Yep - Motorsport Hardware for the win! I have them installed and would never return to bolts.

FYI, if you do end up getting the OEM wheel locks, you should buy some spare keys based on the last 2 digits of the key card. I got a couple aftermarket keys from Golden Coulee that works great. Also, about half as much as what the dealers will charge. They actually look and feel more solid than the one that came with the wheel locks.
