Please excuse my ignorance as I haven't had a BMW with a full digital dashboard yet; but what the hell is this black square thing that I see in all the digital dashboards?

Driver's attention camera. It will check if the drive is looking at the front road when the assisted driving is on.

I drove an M3 manual (I'm in US) recently and it had the executive package where it had the option to open the trunk automatically when your foot was placed underneath.

I'm not able to get that to work for some reason. Is anyone having the same issue? My dealer said the M3 and M4 don't have that option due to the rear splitter but this video shows otherwise at 9:20.

This feature is hit or miss with my X3M. You have to place your foot in the perfect position or it doesn't work. I can get it to work only 30% of the time.

I’m pretty sure he edited the video at that moment, looks cropped... to save face. I have slid my foot everywhere under the trunk. Checked the manual and there’s nothing about it. Unless this is a feature outside the US.

With my F82, I've found the trick is to put your foot under the bumper slowly and then kick back out quickly. It didn't really matter where I stood, but standing in the middle while doing it is the most effective.

Wait does your g82 have it ? Dealer told me the g80 doesn't have it. We tried for awhile to get it to work 😂

Yes the G82 has it since it's equipped with the executive package

It does not come with kick lift tailgate there is automatic open and close feature but that’s it.

Having an M3 car with Spotify and Waze integrated into the infotainment has been my dream.

So it has been confirmed there no kick lift tailgate? Only pressing buttons?

When looking at the online configurator, it description also mentions buttons but the guy in the diagram has his leg going the car. That combined with that youtube video makes it confusing what is true.

I wonder if he edited it to show the time it actually worked for him? Maybe if he didn't edit it, he would have to show on video that he tried a bunch of times before getting it
