Definitely but it's still interesting to me that the reviews seem to have inspired more interest in the manual transmission.
It makes no sense to me....these people are telling me they're gonna consider a 6MT based on the reviews lol?

Most of us knew we were getting the G80 in manual 4 years ago provided they offered one.

Mine is a daily driver. I am not looking for the fastest quarter mile or 0-60 time. I have had 4 MT BMWs and I always have liked them. The only thing I would change is the 1st gear ratio. I wish the ratio was a bit lower so the shift point into 2nd gear was a little faster.

I agree 100% with that thought about 1st gear. It's been like that forever

Ok, so let's assume most people knew they'd get the manual a long time ago. Maybe the reviews have made them even more interested in it or maybe the folks who weren't sure or thought they were sure on an auto are a bit more interested in the manual after hearing some actual reviews.

That all sounds reasonable to me.

That's the point of this thread: did the reviews make you more interested in the manual

Should have had a third poll option - "I was always planning to get a manual"

It makes sense to one of us then. I get what the thread is about, it just surprises me. Driving a 6MT is more of a lifestyle (and giant pain in the ass at certain times) than an option on a car. You're going to adopt a "lifestyle" based on some print/video car reviews? This manual doesnt seem to be any better than prior manuals...that's my point.

Sometimes I don't even search the dealer stock by car I go right to transmission. The exact car they have in stock is worthless to me unless its a 6speed.

It's the only deal breaker. I made a yuge mistake getting an M3 CS (at the time I was 30k miles over my lease and the F80 was 8 months out of production and no manuals to be found). It was the first and last AT I'll ever drive. If they outlaw gasoline, sure I'll get an electric.

I am psyched this gen we will be able to tell a 6MT from a mile away due to the silver badging of the base model. No more sneaking peaks in the window!

True, just the black m3 emblem without the comp part.

see? I could see your car going the other way on the highway and in my side view mirror tell it's a manual.

I may or may not change to black on my fire orange G80. I never changed my M3 CS badging to black.

How does the 6MT compare to that of a 6MT in a 340i? I know we're talking different cars here but from a tranny standpoint was wondering if they felt similar. I would hope the G80 tranny beats my 340 6MT...

F30?

I've heard all BMW 6MTs kind of feel the same, and this gen feels similar to F80.

So I got the 6MT.. because to me.. I just wanted to feel engaged.. I know that's a pretty stupid thing to say.. but I bought his car as my little covid escape cruiser.. There is soo many distractions in the world, and driving MT frees my mind a bit. The only thing I don't like is the inability to feel a specific engage point at a static position (seems more pronounced in 1st and 2nd.. it seems to change.. and based up previous gens.. I guess it's still the same thing causing that.. so I will remedy that..

When I drove the AT, it felt good.. but not enough to keep me from MT. I mean to each their own. I am not using it for DD or commuting so I can't really have a good opinion there.. when I need to commute again.. it won't be with a manual for sure.. NYC/NJ and 144 mile a day commutes make me buy ES350s for that..

Though my opinions are crazy lol.. I like the front end.. the steering doesn't feel terrible to me ... and well I just like the damn thing lol.

Stay Safe Everyone!!

The manual transmission is pretty smooth for a twin disc clutch and as a daily driver it's pretty fun, nothing like rolling through the gears after a long day at work.

I don't think the clutch is twin disc, it's the flywheel that is dual mass.

Agree modern manuals are a lot easier, I remember how it changed the car when I replaced my oem clutch for a single mass stage 2+ in my 135i..

I suppose that might be a function of where you live. I've been driving manuals almost exclusively for the past 30 years and I've never once found it to be a huge pain in the ass or even a small one.

The poll is only about whether the reviews have made people more interested in the manual. It doesn't try to capture who was going to get an auto and is now going to get a manual. Just whether their Interest in the manual changed at all.

It baffles me nonetheless.

Manual is only a pain relative to AT. If you've been driving exclusively manuals like us (I'm 39, started driving at 17, didn't own an AT until i was 37 and cannot wait to get rid of it) it's what you're used to. I commute to Brooklyn, NY daily. Let's just say my left calf muscle is substantially larger than my right...
