Amazing tech & a car that I am certainly interested in learning more about, however having said that there is no way I would consider buying one.
Weight will be an issue & as is becoming the norm these days it will be all about ridiculous 0-100 & hp figures, the important stuff for real driving enthusiasts ie driving dynamics will undoubtedly be compromised. Also concerning is what happens when these cars go wrong, it's getting so that once the warranty expires you have no choice but to sell the car as the repair costs will be astronomical.

Will be a total beast. Still happy we have analog options in the segment.

I am still glad i decided for the G80. Likely this new C63 is faster - in a straight line at least - but it looks just like a normal new C-class, which for me is not a real upgrade compared to the previous generation C-class. For me the new M3 looks much more agressive and better, and i will also bet on it that the M3 engine sounds a lot better and the way it drives will likely also beat the AMG C63, assuming the experiences from previous generations. That the AMG has more peak power is something that is of very little interest to me as i think the M3 G80 is more than powerful enough......

As always...no manual transmission, no sale. It's a shame too because if it wasn't for the MT the M4 would come in 3rd place for me behind the C63S and RS4.

This is a bridge car. MB isn't ready to go EV and they are going to have difficulty complying with ever stringent regulations with the V8's so this is a stop cap car that will not be looked at fondly in time. The AMG 4-cylinder is a really good engine but it sounds like ass so it's not the best of ICE and it's not EV. It's going to be very fast but it's also going to be heavy and complex and MB has been pretty challenged when it comes to reliability so IMO you are going to have to be an MB fanboy to like this car. To me an AMG without the V8 isn't overly compelling at over $100k especially one that will sound worse than a $40k Golf R.

They're going to have to do some trickery with the speakers to get it to sound anywhere near the W205 V8 (Pre OPF). MB isn't developing anymore ICE so the only choice was hybridize the M177 (packaging issues since the W206 platform was engineered from the start as 4 banger only) or the M139. I read on AMG lounge Tobias Moer was so pissed, he stormed out the product planning meeting and left AMG for Aston lol ....I'm sure the 206 AMG be something else but it'll be a hard pass for me...Merc doesn't do as good of 4 bangers as Audi/VW.

Anyone frequent Mercedes forums and know how it's being received? BMW has made the best M3 ever and it's hated for a design element, I can't imagine what making a C63 AMG a 2 liter 4 pot hybrid has done there.

The technology behind this is next level (as Raz said in that RBR video, a generation ahead of the G8x). With so much new tech, reliability may be an issue but we'll see. It'll be interesting to see how all this put together will perform, especially that +100hp 10s boost. It's going to be heavier than the G8x so we'll see how all this translates in the real world. It's going to be a very interesting H2H against the M3/4. Can't wait! |

To me the most interesting thing is not the 10s boost or the full hp number it is capable of. It is instead the immense under the curve continuous power the car should be capable of having the eTurbo and what type battery weight we are looking at here. It might not be nearly as bad as first expected taken the type of hybrid this is.
Then again it’s still a 4l four banger with a hairdryer and a sewing machine. That said compared to a full EV this could be more palatable option IF the weight remain close to 4k lbs vs a 5k Taycan type EV. |

id like to see this 10sec boost hp number as a plot by the marketers to distract shoppers from the fact that this is now a I4 PHEV ... If it "only" had 500-550hp it's gonna be a very tough sell.
I can't wait to see the final product. The amount of engineering advancement this generation is simply amazing between what BMW did to the G8X and what AMG is doing to W206. I'm most excited to see that electrification is shaping up nicely for performance cars at a mainstream-ish pricing. V8 is not all gone, there's still the AMG GT, next gen E63, and the upcoming AMG-developed SL!

So the upcoming C63 will have 543hp from the hybrid 4 cylinder and peak HP at 643 for a couple seconds they claim. They managed to extract 443 hp from that 4 cylinder motor. 0-60 sub 3.5 seconds and of course will be about 200KG heavier than current. AMG also claims a lot of F1 tech incorporated into this new version. It should be interesting to see the final product and how it compares to the AWD M3, regardless I have no interest in the C63.
PS. tune into Mr AMG channel for more details.

I'm damn sure this car will be fast af.
The whole "directly from Formula 1 into this car" claim is nothing more than marketing crap. Although yes, they did take some tech from there. |

Yeah the F1 stuff is fluff as MB knows that going from V8 to 4-cyl is going to be a sticking point for many so they throw in the F1 spin. I'm sure they will take some tech from that just like the Accord Hybrid 4 cylinder engine with two motors probably borrows some tech from the NSX. Doesn't change the fact it's no longer going to have the AMG trademark V8 under the hood which was the thing that made them special in the first place.

Yeah this car is going to be a beast but not an ounce of regret right now after getting my G80 M3 a couple of weeks ago. Got one of the first ones from Beverly Hills BMW and it’s a beast. I def wanna see where Mercedes goes with this. Helps for pushing the competition between manufactures ultimately for better cars for us.

I’ve driven a C63 AMG and hated it b/c it just couldn’t get any traction. Now that the new one is All wheel drive it might be worth considering. But I do not like the infotainment setup at all.
