I have to admit it's not as bad as I feared. For some reason I feel like the m3 wears the new face better.

I think the problem is the new BMW's use a lot softer sheet metal design, gone are the harder crisp edged body-lines of the F generation cars in favor of softer and more faint body-lines.

sorry but a sport car purchase needs to be an emotional one.. in my opinion, the new m3 and m4 are hideous, and I will be keeping my m4 for a bit longer, until the next emotional connection.
Agreed 100% - just like a girl you spot from afar...when you like something you see , there is no compromise...it's an emotional attachment (like we all geeks here get emotionally attached to a CAR )

Using my novice paint skills, I wanted get a better idea of what the car would look like without the front plate.

IMO I really do like the look. I do prefer the proportions of the M3 over the M4 but overall loving how aggressive the new G8X's are.

This may increase the value of F80/82. The last good looking M3.

Wow, just as ugly as we thought (for those of us who don't have detached retinas).

The wheels are nice, I do like the 2 tone. The interior is a huge step up vs. the F30/F80 so there's a big win there. But man, this isn't a human being, so just judging by the outside, its going to be a hard pass.

Can't wait to hear about the performance figures tho. I'm sure those are going to be kick ass. I'd never thought the looks of an icon like the M3 would be the thing stopping me from liking it. Every generation has been different but always good in its special way. This one...ugh the design is so incoherent. It's like, they ran out of ideas so they put all the different design cues from Lexus, Audi, Honda, VW, and Ford in a hat, and just picked an element from each and tried to blend it together...oof, this is hard to swallow.

hmm...

These look like CG renders or just heavily photoshopped.

I need to see the car IRL. These images are too stylized. That and the configuration is definitely not my taste.

The M4 looks odd.

I'm digging the interior.

i wish they slapped the 3 series' front (grilles and headlights) on both the M3 and M4 and called it a day. they did it with the e90 and e92 but reversed this time.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

I literally like everything but the front grill!

I dunno if that's going to grow on me, it's been several months now and I'm just not digging it?

I love it all around minus the front for both to be honest. Bit disappointed on that design team.

I recently picked up an M340i xDrive and suffered from buyers remorse for a bit knowing the m3 was coming in the not too distant future. I'm sure the new m3's performance will be otherworldly, but...based on visuals alone, I actually like my car better.

Jesus ... puke. I still don't understand how people use the adjective "aggressive" to describe this car. I won't even comment whether I think it's ugly or not, but it sure as hell doesn't look aggressive.

No thanks, I love my M3cs and I'll laugh at the "f80 looks so old now ..." comments.

this is a hard pass I think until LCI.. why anyone that is sitting pretty in an f8x would jump to a first year model of this where discounts are going to be rare/low is hard to justify, at least that's my thought.

man..I remember when I was in my early 20s and saw an e46 m3.. the emotion that evoked in getting one - i finally realized that a few years ago in my f80 and being in a position to do it in a new car, I just don't get that same feeling.. some people will buy it just because its "the new m3" and the performance will be attractive, but unless you lease, you don't want to be driving this thing when the LCI or CS models drop which would surely look better.

Both those colors are hideous which doesn't help. I still will stick with my same comment want to see the overall car in person

As a M fan and owner of many in the past I'm much more concerned about the driving dynamics. Hope it doesn't weigh a ton, and is soulless

I do want to see that green make its way to some other cars like the next M2, BMW has been missing a green color in their lineup for some time.
