So I put the image into photoshop, and the spacing doesn't match up from top to bottom. It's not contiguous at least. So I don't think it is one piece! Maybe there's hope after all

Maybe you guys can just skip attempting to rebrand the 3 as the new 5 and go even bigger. I’m sure the enthusiast will love it.

It is getting the normal 4 series (3 series coupe) grille just like the E90/F80. It's just that this time the normal grilles are gonna be gigantic.

Is this going to be known as the bugs bunny M3?
Actually I can't wait to see what it really looks like. It will probably be good.

First up, I freely admit I'm a BMW tragic...I've always loved them, ever since I was a kid.

Here in Australia we had a TV show called 'Sale of the Century'. The 3 Series was the major prize for decades.... I blame that show, and the shear awesomeness of the E30 M3, and watching it serve it up to V8's in the touring car scene here in the late 80's. Have loved M3's ever since.

There's a lot of grill banter, but no enough G80 hip banter....come on, am I the only one feeling the carry over hips? It's still my favourite thing about the F80, and second favourite thing about the E90, and the latest images confirm the aggressive bodywork remains.

There's always someone thing to lament, but I'm confident based on what's known so far, and the heat the team at M must be feeling, that the G80 is going to be their A game, will be good enough to get my $$$ and will remain the segment benchmark, hopefully with comp spec ability from the outset.

Looks like the variance in the front to rear fender gap also carries over. I guess it's a balance related matter, I'm sure someone can educate me on that...but I wish they'd drop the front to match the rear, it's seriously messing with my OCD. The fact the some of us are changing out front springs only on the F80 tells me they should have a go at resolving that one!

If the G80 miraculously turns out to be a dud, I guess it's M5C here I come.

I know for many M3 guys an M5 is simply too big, and affordability is certainly getting tight....but who else is on the cusp?

Taking a first shot on an iPad here but I think I see it ... in a way, they are taking inspiration from the m2 homage but "extending" the kidney grills down, just not directly connected down like an Audi. Maybe I'm close, maybe I'm not but makes more sense than just two giant vertical ovals. Think of it as they just redesigned the angles on the kidney grills and then split the lower intake in two to give a diff visual appeal. SCOTT26 ?

My awful attempt at a guess.

Point is, I don't see how they can keep the current /____\ M-bumper shape with this kind of grille. I think it'll be more \_____/ but rounded and with more depth, so the front end doesn't look so flat with the tall/upright grilles.

I think the grills will look cool, either immediately or after some time. I just don’t like the rear profile on the G20 and now the G80. The way it slopes down with a step rake from the roof all the way to the bumper like the 1st gen. Panamera. That only looks good with a much gentler slope as the 911. M4 for me this time

Are the grilles more rectangle in shape like seen in the latest pic, or are they wider and more rounded than what is seen? Thanks

They are not separated like that. Look at those two sensors not covered by camo on either side of the plate. You can see a horizontal grill slat right on top of them.

Doctor///M you look to be closest. Scott26 has seen the design and had already sketched what the grills will look like back in Sept. No one really caught on until recently.

You can clearly see what Scott sketched months ago. They are two separate very tall grills.

I've basically decided I can live with most of the design issues I'd otherwise be upset about, just so long as it has real exhaust pipes with real tips...I just can't get over these cutouts built into bumpers where you can see the tiny pipes within..why did they do that on the M850i?

The fact that you responded to the naysayers means the tall grilles are indeed the direction it is headed. Interested to see the final result. As I said a couple of days ago, this may very well be a radical departure from the norm for an ///M vehicle.

I hope these large tall grills have well defined frames and are deep, like the intakes of a jet engine.

Like two of the Chiron’s grill but in BMW kidney style:

100% The G20 don't look great, but the beaver grills are just horrible. So far the ugliest production grills are the x7 and lci g11 7 series. If they go with beaver grills on the g80/2, I don't know what to even say anymore.

I'm confused, so is it two separate grilles or 1 full tall piece that takes up the entire front end ?

Those may be aero slats we are seeing. BMW listens to their fans and I am hopeful. Even if the car ends up being a bit different than expected.

Basically I am looking forward to the vertical kidneys (didn't thought that I will tell this one day), however for me it depends on how they are designed:

:-) CSL Hommage-like, typical separated grills
:-I connected in the middle ,but separate grills (like m2 comp)
:-( i4 concept-like/kia style

What I am worrying about is the placement of the front number plate - BMW kidneys separated by the license plate? I absolutely can't imagine this.

The front plate will probably need to either be tow hook mount, in lower side grill spaces, or drilled to bumper on sides. Google Giulia quad front plate.

Also come to think of it, the vertical grille is likely a spin-off from the Alfa.
