Oil change tutorial video by ECS

For those of you who don't like to wait 10k/a year for oil changes, here is a pretty good DIY on how to do it. Engine bay is tight on the G80 so the filter change is annoying. Since the filter is on top, you could use an oil extractor as well but I like to wait till the car has more mileage so all the wear from break in can drain out.

They could have put the filter over an axle to be slightly more annoying. It'll be fun doing this every 5k miles.

I see there's a good center front jacking point behind the oil cooler, need to find that on my car.

Seriously??
I didn't realize the filter housing was not at the front like it used to be on the S55.
LOL that's just dumb placing the filter in there.

I had a car where the oil filter was over part of the exhaust. I put a towel over it and no problem. There were a few times when it was too cold and took it to the shop for an oil change. I smelled burnt oil for days!

Yeah, the filter location is annoying. Similar to the B58. I dislike the location on my E63 the most though. E46 and F15 6s are a breeze.

Lovely...

Reminds me of the Ring of Fire oil filter.... nestled nicely in the middle of the exhaust manifold. Oh Subaru..

But now Subaru has everyone beat with the new location of their oil filter as it sits on top of the engine bay exposed and ready to be changed without a fuzz or drama.

Spark plugs are a different story

Now, back on topic...
I'm new to BMW cars and find it annoying not to have a DIPSTICK.
Was it to save money? What, $0.25 cents? Or was it to take more control of the maintenance of our own cars? I for one, do NOT trust a digital gauge measuring oil. I had a friend that had an X3, and it started to tell her that she was low on oil... Well, long story short, BMW had to replace the sensor before she put more oil in her engine and caused a catastrophic event. Now, nothing wrong with having both, digital and physical dipstick. BMW, why?, why?

Just the way it is, most german companies ditched the dipstick around 10-15 years ago unfortunately.....same thing with transmission dipsticks. Really sucks. Just another way to get somebody to bring it to the dealership instead of doing it themselves.

Newer FCA vehicles have dipstick tubes for the transmission but a lock on it that says "special tool required" the dealer will NOT sell you the special tool....guess what the special tool is when buying from a store/online?.....a dipstick!
