It was not too hard an install thanks to the folks on bimmerpost identifying the correct leads to tap (I got a quote to do this install of $200 from a local electronics shop and that is a rip off for a 20 minute job). It's a little tight in there and I used a interior removal tool to remove the covers and they came off and went back on pretty easily, although one clip did break but did not cause any issue when putting it back together.

It should be noted if you do a mirror tap, even after you shutdown and lock your M3/M4 - G80/G82 the power for the detector will remain on for about 5 minutes before it shuts off unless you manually power it down, but it does turn off and hopefully doesn't drain the battery. The computer will let you know if there are any unusual battery drains, at least it does on my E93 M3 with the same tap and mount. If you are a little handy and want a clean install, I say go for it.

Negative is the left most brown on the big connect and 12V positive is the red/pink on the far right of the big connect if you are interested.

Where are the panels to remove located? Did the tap just have pins to go in the 12v and ground wires? Really want to get this done, as I hate the wire hanging down to the 12v--which has to be replaced as they are a problem on the cars--although I shimmed in the plug for my Passport so it fits ok. Fairly handy, and don't want to pay 200 bucks for some hacker to install it!

There are two covers between the rear view mirror and glass. I used an interior pry tool to pop the panel clips loose and pull the left and right panels off. Once you have them off there is a large connect and small connect. You want the large connect. I used a mirror tap kit that I bought along with my blendmount radar mount for my model detector. You just wiggle the black lead into the brown wire hole and the red lead on the red/pink 12v. It take a little effort but with gentle wiggling the mirror tap pins slide right in. once they are in, hook up your detector and make sure it is powering up. After that it is just cleaning up the install(deciding how you want the mirror tap wire to come out the panels) and clipping the panels back in. Then you get in the passenger side front and follow instruction to install the blendmount.

Do you have a tutorial for the charcoal filter? I've seen some conflicting reports on how to remove it on here. One guy said he had to melt pins... that seems incorrect to say the least.

You don't have to, but I wanted the grate out of the airbox lid. Otherwise they can just slide out of the frame.

Pretty easy, as long as you can take out the plug from the mirror. Took me almost 30 min to get it out, otherwise easy. Check in the Nav subgroup there are pictures on which wires to tap into.
