I have my doubts with a 5.5L engine at 9000 RPM. Those cylinders would need a massive bore to keep the stroke short. Not to mention the challenges that flat plane crank brings.

I'm gonna take a guess and say it's closer to 8k than 9.

It's practically the same displacement per cylinder as a GT3 4.0L. Ford's Voodoo was 5.2L with an 8,250 redline and was saddled with all sorts of compromises like a single sided intake and didn't have direct injection. I'm betting the redline is closer to 9k if not all the way there. And FPS will always rev higher, that's their very purpose.

I don't really care either way it goes. I'll never be a customer of the C8/Z06 regardless. I just think 5.5L V8 at 9k RPM on a budget conscious street car is wishful thinking.

If they pull it off, great and good on GM. I'm just making a prediction just like anyone else. I'm sure it'll sound great regardless.

Although it'll be interesting to see if it's accepted by the same demographic normally buying corvettes, or if it'll be targeting different customers looking for a budget Ferrari. I have already spoken with a few Corvette enthusiasts about this and they're not really sold on the flat plane crank sound. But in all fairness they're not really crazy about the C8 to begin with, myself included. I'm a little more open to change though. The C7 GS was probably my favorite vette though in all honesty.

It has been said by GM that C8 customers are wealthier than C7 buyers (average median income was higher by $76,000 compared to that of C7) and that the car overall has been reaching a new clientele, I wouldn't be surprised if the Z06 were to as well.

i'll be interested to see what they can get out of the 5.5 fpc v8. Also hope they can at least keep a good low end grunt because i'm assuming this car will be around 3400+ pounds.

Huracan 5.2L V10 ~ 490whp
Ferrari 458 4.5 V8 ~ 450whp
GT3 4.0 F6 ~ 460whp

dyno jet numbers.

If this thing revs anything above 8500rpm, it is going to epic.

Well the C8.R 5.5L flat plane V8 makes 500hp in race trim(limited per regulations). I’d expect to see the road car higher, anywhere from 550-600hp at the crank.

Thanks! I've never owned a Vette but I think this car in many ways will be a game changer. GM has really stepped up their game. It took me a bit to warm up to the C8 but I really think the Z06 with its wide body and scoops or carbon is going to be Epic! I can't imagine the performance of the ZR-1 and the Corvette Zora hybrid.

Because no one actually makes it a real exhaust. Almost all of the time it is a cut-out in the bumper, with a plastic insert that looks like an exhaust, but if you stand behind the car you can clearly see the crappy-looking pipe right behind it. So stupid, if you're going to do some 'trendy' new design element, at the very least put more effort into it and make it at least functional.

must admit the examples you gave us are pretty sad, regardless and IMO the rectangular examples on the C3 from the early 70's look good as they integrated well with the chrome bumperets

Sure I understand that. I guess I should have been more clear with my posts, my intention is poking fun at the poorly executed practice of rectangular exhaust tips in modern cars. Not necessarily being critical of rectangular exhaust design itself, just the laziness of the companies doing it.

3 of the examples I posted are from $75,000+ MSRP cars. That sort of poor quality or lazy design on cars that cost that much is ludicrous.
