I'd get full leather if I was getting of the colored seats, but with all black the difference isn't apparent enough to warrant the cost to me.

What made you want to choose the black interior?
No judgement, just curious.

I really wanted the Yas seats, but thought it would clash with the Enzian exterior. I'm a little apprehensive to order a color without being able to see and compare it in person and there aren't really opportunities for that at this point. It's a little too risky for me for a 3-4 year commitment so I went conservative with black. The orange might look great with the blue exterior, but again I'd want to see an entire orange interior in person before I went for it. Perhaps when I go for my PCD next week they'll have some good examples on the test cars which are always well outfitted. Something to consider for my likely eventual LCI purchase I guess.

Sounds good. Makes sense.

My order is IOMG over Tartufo for that classy look, but when I upgrade in 2 years I'm definitely going with a purple exterior and a blue interior. Just go nuts with it.

Really disappointing though to not get the knee pad for manuals. 4,000 freaking dollars! I also wish the deviated stitching on the passenger side dash would have followed that random line that is behind the iDrive screen. Oh well.

Full Leather on the G80 isn't as interesting as full leather on the F80 (or my G05 X5) because there is no detail or stitching on the dashboard. It's just a flat expanse of leather which isn't much different than the normal dashboard. I also think the colored leather on the lower dash is a bit overpowering. I stuck with extended on my IOMG / Silverstone M3 order.

I will admit full leather on the F80 was stunning. Especially the way the leather went behind the screen and came back around covered in it.

While the G80's dash isn't particularly inspiring, its still better than nothing.

major usability difference is the leather stitched knee rest (for comp models). Without the option it's just hard plastic which is disappointing. Somehow on normal G2X you can get a leatherette stitched dash/upper door/knee rest but in the M version it's plastic or full leather?!!?

If it's reasonably priced in your region like the US, then go for it! I don't appreciate it that much to drop 4k cad on the option, and the plastic knee rest while disappointing is fine with carbon bucket seats as your right leg isn't gonna stretch that far out.

In Australia, if you chose the Comp Model, and you chose a different leather colour like I did with Tartufo, you can only choose the full leather option. Not a massive fan of the under-dash, but them the breaks.

It's all about the leather on the door card for me

Coming from a 2016 550i, I really did like the extended leather in my 550i but my leather dash started to wrinkle and start to pop up because of the hot Texas sun. Yes, I did condition my dash regularly and use a sunshade, but it's just so hot that the leather starts to separate from the padding on the dash. It's not a cheap fix. Would this type of issue be covered under the factory warranty?

"Extended leather" on the G80 is just the base configuration. There is really only one option: "full leather". There are pictures on post 22 of this thread.

Oh, boooooo! I thought extended was some magical option above Full for the G8X. Then, never mind.

There is a magical option above Full - it's the Individual program. Here's a good overview from GrussGott

(1.) Individual Ultra Lite
These are Individual paint color, interior colors, & trims that BMWNA (or other importer) selects are standard configurable options. Examples for the X5M include Tanz/Ametrin/Dravit Grey paint, Ivory/Night Blue leather, Ash Wood grain trim. Typically these are lower $ options (e.g., Dravit = $1950) since they're pre-selected and also, in general, these are Priority 1 options (customer only, no dealer orders), at least in NA. (and once you spec these IUL colors you CAN'T CHANGE YOUR ORDER, even in status 111 as Spartanburg places orders with their suppliers)

(2.) Individual Lite
These are additional paint colors that can be spec'd - this is what you linked to. BMWNA has also pre-selected these colors - the difference is, these colors are $5000 vs the three IUL colors which are $1950. Why is that the case? All of the IUL colors are also on the IL list soooo.... AND dealers can order IL colors, i.e., Priority 0, which is why lots of X5Ms come in these new IL colors.

(3.) Individual Manufaktur
This is the true Individual where they'll embroider stuff on your seats, you can pick any fabrics / trims you want, pretty much do whatever you want.

IM also has catalog items, but those are suggestions (and cheaper as they're pre-researched). Back when I did it in 2018 you had to work with a specific person at BMWNA - just one lady, and she did all the IMs for NA (I worked with her in 2015 too). For example, we exchanged drawings of what pieces of the interior I wanted in what leather colors and you can do just about anything, but it adds up fast ... it's also annoying because they don't tell you ahead "oh if you do that it'll be WAY more than just those bits" - you just have to send drawings and then wait to hear the price. If you don't like it, send a new drawing. You also get a ~$3000 labor charge to pull your car off the line and put it back on - that can be avoided with certain configs but they don't (didn't) give you much of an idea what triggers it.

IM isn't available for cars not made in Germany AFAIK (so no Xs) and they've changed the order process - it's not just one lady doing all the coordination now.

Anyway, Individual Manufaktur is like the "real" Individual, with all the other stuff just selected configs they decide they can make a higher margin on.

For example, because there's no X-class IM, you can't get salmon skin in your X5M

Do you think the leather on the dash will be durable or will it start looking run down in a few years? What if It's gets a deep scratch, then it maybe an eye sore. Normal plastic dash is probably less fragile and that's what might prevent me from going extended.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, and for me personally I would not go for the full (extended) leather. I live in sunny San Diego.

Full and extended are 2 different things. Extended is the standard interior. Full adds the lower dash, door tops, dash and the knee pad with the competition. I live in south Florida and have had my F82 with full leather including the dash for almost 7 years and it still looks perfect. I went with the full leather on my G82 order. It completes the interior and is a big upgrade over non M cars.

You can special request the dash to be full black leather regardless of the color of the seats. Ask your dealer.

The only reason why I opted for extended instead of full is because I am worried about the leather dashboard getting scratched and sun fade. My Frenchie always puts his paws on the dash to look out. I tell him to get down but the last thing I need is for him to scrape the leather. He’s scraped the leather on my idrive controller in my E92 and I had to get it replaced. Basically if I got full leather it’s just a matter of time until it gets scratched.
