What is interesting is the M4 GTS was not a good looking car. It needed so much work to make it look good.

The G80 does look good in Frozen, but still not sure about the car. Its missing something still.
Wait, what what is wrong with the GTS? Orange wheels are not for everyone, I understand that, but it was essentially an overly aggressive version of our base vehicles with what is still (5 years later) the coolest tail lights I've ever seen.

In my experience, the one thing that the GTS suffers from these days is the lack of LCI headlights which really date it.

This is/has been a pretty fun and cool marketing campaign. Don't like the wheels that are the focal point of this video but who cares? So many crotchety responses on here too lol. BMW spent a bunch of money on a marketing campaign that legitimately separates themselves from other companies .. let alone other car companies. They did this all at no cost to you! 😀

Sure at the end of the day it's an advertisement but they also did it so people could enjoy the ride and have a good time. The Mr AMG video does a great job of showing all the effort put into this "town" for the video. I definitely dig this over the boring shit you usually see day in and day out. 👍 Lots of great cars. Definitely digging the frozen metallic gray look on the M3 too.

Someone got these for their F90 a couple months ago. Had never seen them before, but he said they were super light. Maybe he was in Europe? Will have to dig up the thread...

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they would look better on a spy colored car vs matte gray.

The formula for BMW is simple- can we steal away some AMG enthusiasts.

Bang for the buck using this AMG youtube guy seems like a no brainer for their marketing campaign.

I for one enjoy fun and friendly competition from AMG, and I think it keeps everyone innovating.

This does kind of show the difference in execution between BMW M and Porsche GT.

BMW is selling hype and nostalgia with an influencer like Shmee (less so Mr. AMG as I like his content but he's still more influencer than journalist, IMO). The car has been revealed for several months now and not much has been discussed about performance; just styling.

Meanwhile Porsche GT also included some nostalgia in their recent videos with AP and Chris Harris/Henry Catchpole, but the focus was on the evolution of the model, performance and GT car customer satisfaction (weight, suspension, PDK operation, etc.). Little with regards to styling, besides how well the camo did its job to make the car ugly and the new blue, was really discussed in either video.

What's funny is that I seem to be in BMW M's target demo but I align myself more with the Porsche GT values... I just need my bank account to catch up

I still haven't ruled out a G80 because 1) I like the styling and 2) a new manual sedan is tempting but I'm still not a fan of the weight gain and fact I can't get laser lights and a heated steering wheel without opting for unwanted bloat with the other stuff in the Exec. package.

They go with the influencers because of just that, they can be influenced. The true automotive press has not been so kind to the G8X.

M-town ads are great, IMO.

This was a good fun ad, similar to Porsche's Super Bowl ad. It had a lot of great cars and the new wheels although not for me in this color are pretty cool, I hope they come in different colors like all grey or black.

The marketing videos for the release were the problem they were strange and had no technical, historical, or 'enthusiast focused' follow through.

I do understand people comparing the BMW stuff to the new GT3 videos with Chris Harris and Henry Catchpole and I do agree that BMW should have done more with car journalists explaining the history of the M3 and the engineering of the new car.

Schmee is buying a new M3, so BMW might be onto something. He does not bother me, probably since his right hand man was so active on the M2 forums, so I watched his stuff with an open mind and I truly think he is a car guy that just filled a media niche. Having Mr. AMG was humorous and clever IMO.

I can look past the grill but I can't get over the 400lbs weight increase vs. the F80. Might as well just get an F90 M5 LCI then since it's only 300lbs heavier than the G80.

And the tiny rear brake calipers. M3 lost its purpose as a practical grocery getter/weekend track toy, it's just a slower M5.

I might go with the M5 but it’s not because I think the G8X is going to drive/feel like a small M5. If I’m doing it’s because it’s the last and most powerful BMW M V8 and since it’s IMO a comparably screaming value at current out of the door prices.

I suspect the G8X will still feel at home on the track. BMW would not have put it against the F82C on the preproduction track event if it was a dog in comparison. Too much paper decision/judgement here at this stage.

Hadn't thought of that, they do offer a lot of those colors. Mercedes all look the same to me though, they have so many models and the interiors are not for me, once they drop the V8 they'll lose the only reason to buy one, I can see why BMW are fishing for their base.

If we're discussing aesthetics, the orange was an unpopular choice expecially next to gold calipers, the front splitter that wasn't as wide as the full bumper looks weird (less weird with the orange deleted), the wing is comically undersized and doesn't look very good.

When a 911 owner sees a GT3, they think "I really wish I could afford one or could have gotten on the list!" but when an F8x owner sees a GTS they pretty much just laugh at the owner.

Also, on the subject of tail lights - if you're making a track focused M4, the last thing you would do is to waste $8k of your budget on OLED tail lights. Maybe that's just me but there's clearly a reason the M4 GTS values dropped straight through the floor.

If they had built the exact same car mechanically but made it look un-controversially cool (like the E46 M3 CSL), I think they would be highly sought-after now because the M4 GTS is a pretty nice car to drive.
