I'll say this again. It's really not even the grilles that offend me. It's what in gods name they did to the rest of the front fascia.

I'm almost 100% sure those are legit. But hopefully people who have seen the car in person can confirm. My problem with the car isn't "change is bad." It's that the car looks so generic, except for the gigantic grille. The rear and side of the car look more generic, so they just slapped a giant grille on it...Even the front end is a generic angry mouth underneath the grilles. Either way, I hope BMW doesn't go the opposite direction and go even more conservative if this car is a sales failure. If anything, I think they need to be bolder.

The body lines really pop on the yellow and the underbody i think sets up the grille well...however, this is going to still look hideous with US spec plates and i think it'll look best black on black on black.

I'm not a fan of these plastic side sills and body kit looking accessories, almost look aftermarket. I think there is simply too many lines going on with this design. I do like the wheels and the paint color on the M3 at least.

Oh I agree completely. I hate the black side skirts theme, but the IOM green looks great on a sedan.

I gotta say, the M4 looks better than the M3 to me....and yes, I am recently divorced and can now opt for a 2 door, how did you know?

Don't like the front obviously but otherwise it's great. I can live with that face.

Nope that is it! The ones they previewed to us this weekend were the competition models..black wheels etc. Same colors and everything. This appears to be the base models for both the m3/m4. Supposedly there will be a base and then a Competition trim level.

edit..on second look I think both of these were the comp models previewed to us. The room had very dim light so the m3 looked like the wheels were all black, but on closer look of the picture above they are the exact same style. The m4 was identical to the one shown.

My brother who was there with me laughed saying these two cars were probably the exact ones they were showing for the release coming up. He was right.

No problem..crazy the leak finally happens this close to reveal. They told us Wed was the reveal.

Also you can only get the 6spd manual in the base version, not the competition trim. I told him that was a bit disappointing and the rep agreed.

I'm not really sure how to respond to these pics. The front doesn't bother me to be honest but the rear on the M3 doesn't differentiate enough from the G20.

Definitely not as exciting as previous iterations but I'm hoping the overall package makes it worth buying.

Another small thing I noticed that I think I really don't like is that they seem to have gone away from the creased "double bubble" CF roof design. Can anyone confirm?

I’m not a huge fan of the 3 series in general in terms of handling, I’m sure the g80 out handles my f32 but the 4 series, better yet the M2 is the preferred platform for handling and driving purists.

I’d imagine the M4 to have marginally better handling and minor weight savings over the M3 but the M2 to be materially better than both per usual.

I've decided the issue I have with it is not necessarily the grilles but how they integrate. The lower front fascia is a weird shape, and not the "A" shape from BMW M we are accustomed to--looks more like a non-M. But it just completely does not flow in into the grilles.. Would wait for an LCI.

100% this is a cost cutting measure. That is a 3 series rear door.

Front is bad but livable and not a deal killer.

I think at this point we've all been conditioned to the grilles and have developed our own defense mechanisms for putting up with it.

I can definitely overlook the grilles and think they will end up growing on everyone
