Wireless charging available again

BIMMERPOST

My CA txtd me to say wireless charging became available again, which I was hoping for. It was nice if him to add it for me. Hopefully that little change doesn't push my build week back again lol.

It takes 15 minutes to install. My iPhone 13 pro doesn't get hot. And once you do the coding, you get a nice reminder that your phone is in the tray when you park.

All wireless chargers warn your phone. People act like it's going to burn them. I don't get it. It gets no warmer than my Apple Watch on its charger.

I don't get why this is considered a problem.

In my experience at least, the issue wasn't with it getting "warm," but with getting nearly too hot to touch and actually shutting the iPhone down due to overheating. The charge was mediocre at best, and almost nonexistent if running more than 1 app (ie, Spotify and google maps).

I don't have it in my M3, but had it in my previous g20, wife's X5 and brother's X7 and does the same in them all. Maybe they actually got a better one recently?

I've always liked wireless charging, but the heat thing is considered an issue as nothing will deteriorate a battery capacity quicker than it getting hot regularly. Heat is very damaging to lithium-ion batteries unfortunately.

Works fine for me, it charges the phone and no heating issue, and plenty of room for iphone 13 pro including case.

I personally like the wireless charging and have never had a problem with it. I was actually talking to my sales team yesterday about my order and somehow my order slipped in and they were able to add it, however I was told that it is no longer available in their system for orders and it has been replaced with parking assistance for the time being. I am not sure if all dealers have the same contingencies.

I've noticed if I place my phone in the middle of the wireless charger it'll get hot... but if i position my phone towards the left and far forward as possible (towards me... so in the corner closest to me), it charges without getting hot and works like a normal wireless charger.

Works like a charm in both my G20 and G05... and as such I've optioned it on my G80 order as well.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

My wife has an iphone 13 but I haven't tried it with hers. She has one of those "popsocket" things attached to it so she doesn't use the wireless charger anyway.

I have a 60 w USBC car charger to lightening port for my IPhone And can fully charge a dead battery phone in less than an hour. Wireless charging is useless for charging your devices in your commute especially when you are running Waze and music app in the background. Your not going to get any meaningful charging. You may preserve the battery u had before u got in the car. Save your 500$ and get some meaningful upgrades u can use and feel. So many options come to mind or aftermarket upgrades, cosmetics, performance, sound speakers and Subwoofer upgrades. Wireless charging overnight is convenient on your night stand but in the 30 min commute is kinda useless. Added benefit the red LED on black add some nice lighting to my center on Fiona red interior

Can you post a link to this charger? I can't tell from the picture what it is exactly.

Thanks

I'm just not in my cars long enough to even need the wireless charger option. And because the wireless chargers offered in vehicles are so slow, on the rare occasion when I actually need to charge my iPhone in the car, I just plug it in for the faster charge it offers.

I do though use an Andobil 15W max wireless charger at home connected to an Apple 20W block....works quite well and doesn't warmup the phone either....

I looked "83W car charger phone" on the mighty Google and found this:

I'm assuming this charger's stem is long enough to reach the metal coil at the bottom of the power port? I've read some other's had older chargers that couldn't reach the bottom of the power port. I also had an older power adapter that wouldn't reach the bottom either.

Don't have my M3 yet but I don't see a reason why it would not work based on the shape. If it doesn't fit for some weird reason u can always return it

FWIW, the USB-C port in the console under the armrest works great, and it's cooled in there as well, and with CarPlay, I never really need to touch my phone, so that's all I need.
