Is there a way to stop the trunk from locking while driving?

My trunk locks automatically when I start driving and it's frustrating because the first thing my kids do when I pick them up from school is try to open the trunk for their bookbags but are always thwarted. Is there a setting in idrive for this? I couldn't find anything obvious there or in BimmerCode.

There's an option to unlock the car when you put it in park. If you remember to do that it should unlock the trunk as well.

Why not just use the trunk opening lever/switch by the doors’ cupholder in that instance?

The problem for me is just remembering to since I never locked any of the doors intentionally. I'd rather the none of the doors locked automatically.

It’s a setting in the Vehicle Settings app. Just disable auto locking.

I don’t have a “Vehicle Settings” app or an auto locking option as you’ve described. Can you share a picture of yours?
These are what I have:

Sorry you’re right, I’m thinking of my X3 with iDrive 7.

In my G81 with iDrive 8, I don’t actually see a way to disable auto locking after you drive off. Only thing I can think to suggest is enable “Unlock doors when in P”.

Even with doors unlocked, a lot of cars disable the electric boot release when the car is in gear.

It is for the security reason. The boot is opened only from inside button while the car engine is on and in driving mode.

Imagine you're sitting in traffic ans somebody just walks by, opens the trunk at the back, grabs your stuffs in there and runs, what can you do ?

Just for clarity, you want the car to be vulnerable 100% of the time you're in it, because on the off chance you might forget to reach down to door pocket to flick the release button?

To each their own. I drive around with my doors unlocked 100% of the time.

Mind me asking why? The doors unlock on two pulls with the engine running and unlock with the ignition off?

Because I really don't fear someone running up and pulling my door open. And if I'm in an area where I feel like that might happen, I'll lock them.
