Also out of curiosity, is there a reminder or warning on drive that comes up when it’s time for the breakin service?

Always found this funny that the M cars require a 1200 miles service but cars like a GT4/RS GT3/RS and many more higher end cars with higher strung engines dont.

Yes! I heard about warranty being voided because of not performing the 1200 miles break in service. It’s a deal breaker for me.

I'm under the impression, (and I dont know much) that there could be significant factory warranty issues with a break in service that didnt get done until 6k miles. The original break in oil, was not meant to be taken much past the 1,200 mile break in.

Likely because higher end engines have tighter manufacturing tolerances.

Possibly, but let's be objective - BMW's tolerances and engines are as good if not better than any other manufacturer out there.

I would doubt that that specifically for the 3RS and similar cars.

There is no break in service required on them. I've owned 2 GT4s and about 8 other 911s (various models) and have never had to do a break in service. First service on all cars is 10K miles.

At least the 3RS has a break-in period.

500km: 4000rpm limit. 501-1000km: 5000rpm limit. 1001-1500km: 6000rpm limit

Mat Watson on his 3RS delivery video said as much too.

I am not talking about a “break-in” procedure, but rather a break-in service. First service on any GT car is 10k miles. Re: break in procedure some do and some don’t but most of these cars are driven over those limits by the dealer before the car is even sold. Mind you Porsche doesn’t break in the cars they use at their event centers but do then sell them CPO after they’be been driven 5-9k miles, hard. Most Porsche dealers will tell you let the oil get to temp and wail away.
Most Porsche owners don’t follow those procedures either. I run mine maybe 4500 for the first 100-150 miles, then 5500 for the next 100-150 and then after that it’s redline city.

I see that now, I guess I misunderstood. The service part is specifically because they use different oil than what's normally run in the engine post-1200 mile service, I guess Porsche doesn't do that.

Correct on the latter. There have been Porsches I’ve bought that I did do a slight break in but others simply just got oil to temp and then right to redline. Even my buddy who is a GM of a Porsche dealer just says to romp on it right away - the engines that come from porsche centers for track days usually are the strongest and obviously them CPO’ing them tells you they have no concern with them simply being new, right up to oil temp and then driven hard for hours upon hours a day for months before PCNA sends them to dealers to then sell.
