That doesn't make sense. If you passed QC, why would you be awaiting dispatch for multiple days? Nobody ever takes more than 1-2 days after QC to be on the way to Bremerhaven.

Not true. It can take several days in some cases, best case scenario is 1-2 days.

Exterior body assembly begins today too! Looks like Bergy4Selke37 and I are following a very similar timeline.

I wonder if I’ll end up taking longer at any point due to having Individual paint 🤔

It’s funny some of you were talking about PPF…I was weighing the pros and cons myself a few days ago. I don’t think I will do it - maybe for the extremely expensive to replace and exposed carbon bits (carbon fibre mirror caps and bottom slats). It’s not worth it for what will be a daily driven car (and driven a lot) in my eyes. Some points I thought of:
  • PPF itself is not immune to road rash. So it’s an expensive replacement the minute it stops looking good.
  • It also somewhat limits you in the sense that if you want to paint correct the entire car for instance, you have to remove/re-install. Even if you only did front end PPF.
  • One accident or big rock chip can essentially “undo” it. Problem then is it’s not just a respray but you have to remove and re-install.
  • How far do you take the whole “preservation” process? Drive a car enough (and believe me, I will) and it’ll show signs of wear eventually. Sooner than you think actually. Wheels, paint, leather, shift knob, steering wheel, windshield. You can’t possibly preserve everything and enjoy it fully. That’s my humble opinion.

Glad to see our cars are moving! Definitely not holding my breath for a 2024 delivery but…what if 👀🤣

What color did you order? My F80 was an individual color and tbh the pressure of trying to keep the paint pristine got old after awhile (and didn’t matter because it was totaled by a truck rear ending me). If I do PPF it will just be the front bumper because track day debris will def. chip the front bumper. Maybe extend the rear arch PPF as well. I picked a base-ish color (Tanzanite) so I could not stress as much about the paint for once.

Mine entered the paint booth yesterday and still says so, but more than likely the tracker is just wrong. I expect it’ll move a few steps tomorrow.

Im west coast. So probably not. Hopefully not. I actually don’t want it this year because I’m selling an investment I don’t want in this tax year! This happened way faster than I was expecting. Everything lined up super fast.

You made many valid points about PPF. I also decided to pass on it and canceled my appointment. PPF won't increase the resale value and if you keep it long enough, like 10 years, you'll most likely have to renew it and the price for that will be the same as repainting. The difference is that after 10 years, your car will be chipped all over and paint will be dull without PPF. And with PPF the paint will be pristine (theoretically), including the clear coat, after you take it off. But $10K for the film sounds like a stretch.

Definitely not holding my breath for a 2024 delivery but…what if 👀🤣
Curious. What phone/internet browser did you use to log in and check your status here? When I use the myBMW app, my car is the non-LCI version. When I use the myBMW website on a computer, I only see the side profile of my car (but it is the correct LCI version). When I used my iPhone to login on the website with Safari - still only got angles of the non-LCI version.

Yes, this is a dumb and pointless question. Work is slow today.
