You think so? I might reconsider getting that and pass on it.. Just heard that it's a "must" from everyone on this forum.

I agree. It can be depending on the environment and roads one drives on, but this is not an issue for most people. Then again, if a couple hundred bucks buys one piece of mind then sure, go for it, but it’s certainly not a “must have “ some people claim it is.

Well that's good to hear. The thread about it made it seem like a very big problem. I'll take the opportunity to allocate that $200 towards something fun like an interior ceramic kit instead

  • Oil Cooler Guard (MAD)
  • Front and rear deflector delete (front paint matched, rear black gloss horizontal slats from IND)

Mods I will do AFTER break-in:
-MAD Resonated Mid Pipe
-SST Valve Controller
-CSL Flash for Suspension/Steering

I may do a front bumper PPF - jury is still out. I'm gonna drive the shit out of this thing/it will be my daily, so I don't see any reason to try too hard to preserve it. PPF doesn't help retain any value from a resale perspective anyways.

If I trade it in for an upgrade, it'll be in 3-5 years, at which point it'll only be worth 40-70k anyways (idk how much M cars actually depreciate I just made those numbers up)
Nice mods! A friend talked me out of PPF, so I canceled my appointment. You just confirmed the PPF doubts too. Still checking on whether the oil cooler guard is going to void any warranty. With your mods, it seems like the brakes and the interior will still be under manufacturer's warranty. Or maybe just the interior.
Are you doing those immediate mods yourself or did you order them from BWM to be done by BMW in Baltimore? If so, they will be under the standard warranty. But that midpipe will void the whole engine, fuel, ignition, intake, exhaust warranties right away.

Think of it like ppf. It’s an insurance policy.

I’ve had my X3MC for 56k miles and my wifes M340 for 30k miles and neither of us have had any issues. It’s a parallel to the road radiator so you’d have to be really unlucky to penetrate it. If you hit something the oil pan is most likely taking damage too so who cares. This design is not new and has been around for a while way before the G8X.

Midpipe will not void your warranty, as long as you don’t touch your downpipes. My current ‘23 has midpipe, axleback, frount mount intakes and suspension and my warranties are all still in tact . Just need to do your break in service before modifying with the bolt ons.

It's probably blown out of proportion, but I ran over some debris in my F80 that punctured my oil coiler. I was on the highway and ran over some road crap that was thrown my way.
The check engine light came on very quickly (within 10 seconds). Luckily, I was close to an exit and was able to pull over and have my car towed. I'll be spending a couple of hundred to protect it.

But more importantly: Car is in status 155 (Quality Control).

Thanks! The oil cooler guard, spacers, and springs shouldn't void any warranties to my knowledge. Same for the mid-pipe.

The only thing that runs the risk of getting me flagged for modifying the car is probs the CSL flash. It's only $100 tho so I wouldn't mind wiping it if I had to service the car and getting it re-coded.

All mods to the car will be done at Speed & Tech in Sterling, VA. I'll do oil changes myself.

Sounds like a good plan! I hope all will be the same as you said. I'd recommend checking that springs won't void the suspension warranty. It's an electronically adjustable damping force system. Eibach is a reliable company, so I'm sure they did a great job matching springs to the shocks, but still worth checking if the warranty is important.
I need to research Speed & Tech, never heard of them. Do you live in Sterling or thereabouts? I'm in Centreville, just down Rt 28.
Great to hear that you change your own oil! I do too on all family's cars. How often are you planning to change oil in your M in addition to the prepaid maintenance? And what kind of oil/filter are you planning to use? (Asking for myself, since I want to do 3-5K additional changes)

Thank you! They are by far the most popular and reliable BMW shop in Northern VA. Might I say, maybe even across the entire DMV. Everyone in the mid-atlantic sub-forum here on Bimmerpost use them. Luc and Raj (who run the place) post a lot on these forums, host monthly BMW meets, and are very clearly ///M Enthusiasts inside and out. They do everything (PPF, Ceramic, Cosmetic & Performance mods).

I haven't even worked with them yet, but can confidently say to reach out to Luc@Speed&Tech to get hooked up when your car is here.

I live in Gainesville, just off of 66. There's nothing decent super close by, but to me - Sterling is a short drive.

I plan to change my oil every 5k miles, as I believe BMW will only do 3 free oil changes (one per year or every 10k miles). So 5k will be me, 10k will be bmw, 15k will be me, etc.

Liquid Molly 5W-30 with the OEM Filter (Hengst). You can get a full kit for only $85 bucks at https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...11428092620kt1

I found that people on the forums/youtube use this oil/filter so am just following suit, lol

Just hit status 190. Dispatched from factory.

I'm expecting to sit at the port for a day or two while we our week gets finished up. Exciting times, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up for the car to be delivered in 2024

We're in Sterling, VA and work on more G8X's than any shop in the DMV area

Very interesting! I'll be sure to visit one of their monthly meets.
As far as the local shop - I found this one near me in Chantilly: IMA Motorwerke (The name is German, so it must be good, right?). They have 4.9 Google rating.

https://imamotorwerke.com/

I went there, they told me to use the original warranty, then the extended warranty, then see them, unless I can repair by myself. "A car is a car" they said. I can repair a lot of things, so we'll see. Maybe for clutch replacements, I'll go there, maybe, or not. A clutch is a clutch.

Everybody seems to be in favor of Liqui Moly. Maybe I will use that too, or the OEM oil. I'm surprised that Mobil1 is not in favor, need to check why, it's good oil. I've been using Mobil1 in all cars for decades and the cars have been running for over one decade at least. The engines are super clean inside, so are oil pans. But if Liqui Moly, I'll be getting 5qt jugs, it's way more economical. 1qt bottles are super expensive, even Mobil1. Filters from the dealer though. Maybe oil from them too if they sell 5qt jugs.

You will need low profile long ramps to drive onto. Regular ones won't work with a lowered car. Have you found a pair yet or are you using a lift?

Good to know there are reputable shops for enthusiasts in the area!
I won't be doing any mods until the extended warranty expires. Clutch replacements are a different story. I'll be sure to visit your shop at some point. Thank you!!

I wonder if there is any rhyme or reason of it, based on location or color. I've got a base color (aventurine) and I'm in TX (so I think Bmore is my port city). You'll likely be dispatched in a day.

If you're in TX, Galveston is probably your port. Destination Port should be listed on your build sheet, top right.

Consensus is the OEM Oil is pretty average, Liquid Molly seems to be better. Gonna just order the full oil change kit from the link above - they have a diff one that comes with oil pan, gloves, ramps, etc.

I don't think 20mm drop to just the front will be too dramatic and should be fine on most things

You have an individual color, right? Maybe they found an air bubble in the factory PPF, or a chip/scratch, and it's taking longer than usual for them to get it corrected. Most cars blast out of QC in a few hours.

Yes, individual color 🤙🏼 Gonna be more optimistic and say that the automated robot is correct and I finished Quality Control awaiting to be dispatched ; simple glitch in the system for the app / website especially as I’m not the only one in this situation for my build week thankfully.
