Grille haters brought this to the forefront. It’s a sanity check against the vocal minority polluting BMW forums and comment sections.

No, it hasn’t been humiliating being seen in a G8x. Quite the opposite.

In my area (DC Metro), I get about one compliment a week. If my wife drives it, she gets more, so whoever is behind the wheel is also a part of it.

I have also noticed MANY more occurrences of "F*!@ Beemer" behavior. Behavior like aggressive lane changes, riding my tail, and drifting into the lane while attempting to pass. So way more passive-aggressive than positive feedback, but that is a product of this area.

The other thing is that car culture seems to be waning. It is gratifying to see that other people out of the blue appreciate any cars at all.

I think it's interesting as "the internet" hates the grilles so much but in real life the G8X seems to get a lot of love from all, including non-car enthusiasts. BMW is clearly on to something with the styling.

I suppose there are a few fake ballers who buy a top-range 3 series looking for clout, but most buy it for what it is - a great bang for the buck car that punches well above its class.

That sums up the "positive" feedback I get with this dick magnet of a car.

What’s honestly a bit weird is that there seems to now be a vocal few that came into a thread they see no value in… to repeatedly claim they see no value in the thread.

Pot, meet kettle.

Seems like you have a need to let people know you are above noticing anyone noticing you.

Noted, thanks.

Ladies and germs, before you now comes a man (we presume on good faith) who tracks multiple threads he thinks are of such little significance, of such unimportance… that he needs to then make posts in those threads to tell the other people making these insignificant, unimportant threads how he is not insignificant and unimportant because he would never make insignificant, unimportant threads like the one’s he’s now tracking and posting in.
The grill haters got me interested in it. Was a member of Acura site going back to 2006 where its popular to compare the TLX-S to any BMW. Typically any BMW will breakdown or explode at a moments notice + they cost more.

Of course the BMW any BMW shows up very poorly compared to it. That trail lead me to the prior model of (any brand or model, take your pick) is always superior to the new model when posted by owners of the old model.

Just fun & games on the net, great entertainment value.

I really think this is it...at least for me. I'm obviously a fan of the G82 because I bought one, but I just like cars and car culture in general and have since before I had a license. Getting and giving thumbs up or talking cars with people at the gas stations or wherever is a part of the whole thing. It's not that I need validation to feel good about myself or my purchase, but it is just nice to share this hobby with others and drive a vehicle that other people appreciate too. I unapologetically feel this way.

Almost like the internet is such a small and insignificant slice of the real world that it might not even be worth paying attention to.

You’re right about this and it is weird af.
When I’m driving like a normal respectful human following traffic and not trying to get anywhere is when the worst behavior happens.

When I’m in a rush people move. It’s so weird.

I was driving through town couple days ago at 25 mph and 2 teenage kids on pedal bikes saw me and started screaming lol. They proceeded to chase me for a few blocks before catching me at a stop sign yelling we love your car dude lol!

Honestly that was me as a kid. Used to get so excited when I saw cool cars. Then I'd go home and dream!!!

Got stoped twice picking up doughnuts last week. (For kid’s party not for me… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it…). Worker ran out of the shop to ask what kind of car it was. Then at first stop light a guy flagged me down to ask about the paint. I think it’s the frozen blue for sure. Love the color. Sometimes it’s more attention than I want. On the same drive I encountered a tanzanite blue G80. Was the first time I’ve seen in person. Was a gorgeous color in the sun. Pretty but still a bit more under the radar.

I think the color helps and the attainability factor does too.

How’s everyone else been received?

Lots of compliments when filling up. Tanzanite Blue II, Tartufo, M4Comp and aftermarket Yellow DRL, a nice combo. I just smile when chevvys roar past as I keep to 5+ on turnpike. I know what I have, don't feel need to unzip and show. LOL

Exactly why I went with G80. Not cheap but it’s amazing for the money

I have a black M3 so it avoids attention....until a few weeks ago.

At the traffic lights and 2 alcoholics (it's noon on a monday and they are walking around with cans of beer - drunk) decide that my car is "well fit" and start having a pretend wank over it. Luckily, the lights went green before they could "finish". That wasn't the end of it!

2 traffic lights later an IV drug user knocks on the window. I don't wind it down. It's not the US so a gun is less of an issue - knives however very possible. Anyway, turns out he want to know if there is a needle exchange nearby as he is not local to the area! I am unaware of where there may be one but recommend that there are 2 24 hour gyms in the vicinity and maybe if he waits outside there and asks anyone that looks vaguely big he might have some luck. That's not to infer that loads of gym users take steroids - I'm sure it's all natural. I have been told that they keep the needles in case someone else at the gym needs them - for others safety and wellbeing.

This is not a normal day in the UK - well it might be in some places - in case the rest of you think the place has totally gone to sh**

I've had only one person who looked and then stopped to ask questions while gassing up in the 6 months of ownership.

I had one other to appear to look who had an older BMW but maybe he was just checking out my wife.

Appears that the others don't realize they are driving by perfection. Talking about the car...Lol

It seems like literally nobody cares in my area which I'm totally cool with.

I thought I'd get a different response from people but not in Cali.

I had a strange bystander interaction this week. A guy in his 20's being driven in a Jetta by his probably girlfriend, stopped behind my car on their way out of the grocery store parking lot. He asked a bunch of questions, including the rather rude "How much did it cost" and complimented the car.

His girlfriend yelled out that she had said to him that "there's no way that's his car" as I was walking up to my Frog.

There could be a lot reasons for that comment. I'm not young and I need to lose some work from home weight. I asked for clarification and apparently, it wasn't that I'm old, it's because I was wearing a Star Trek shirt.

Geeks aren't supposed to own M3's, apparently. According to the Jetta lady.
