Beating myself up over sunroof

So I admittedly came from VW/Audi and the g80 is my first BMW and wasn’t aware Cf roof was standard when ordering mine. I use the sunroof but I am now kicking myself two months into ownership on not having the CF roof. 😔.

Is the claims of CF roof clear fading/peeling real? That’ll make me feel slightly better if so.

The carbon roof is awesome, but don't let not having it ruin your enjoyment of the G80!

I often wish I had a sunroof if that makes you feel any better. Very often.

I actually would have preferred the sunroof instead of the CF roof if that helps you feel any better

sunroof is where it's at.

being able to open it and hear the exhaust during summer is a killer vibe, waited 6 months to factory order it since no car on the lot had it!

cat loves it too lol

No it's not. There were rumors of CF roof shortages when I was waiting for my allocation and was going to turn the car down if it ended up being true. Definitely a deal breaker for me long with laser lights.

I had to have the CF roof. In the last 15 years all but a couple of cars I’ve owned had sunroofs. I buy most cars off the lot and once you get a certain package you automatically get a sunroof. Many of those cars never had their sunroofs open. I simply didn’t use them. That said, if you like the additional light in the cabin and enjoy opening it I’d just enjoy it and forget about it.

I like sunroofs too, but the carbon fiber roof is just too cool.
If I could've had both sure, but life can be so unfair.
I would have liked a clutch too.

Obviously it just comes down to preference and use case -- like everything else when you're optioning the car for yourself. Personally, despite how much I love the look of the CF roof, there was no way I would've specced my build without the moonroof; I always would've felt like something was missing, even though my car clearly would've looked cooler from the outside. (I won't get into the weight issue; even with the bloat coming in the worst possible place, I seriously doubt I'd ever notice the difference in my daily driving -- even when pushing it.)

So I'm assuming that's the case for most of us here who optioned and ordered our cars; just a matter of personal preference.

Of course, if you 100% would've ordered the CF roof instead, if you'd been aware it came standard, then it's a slightly different scenario -- and I don't blame you for beating yourself up (since you actively had to check that moonroof box to get it)! Just kidding.

Hey, just keep the roof open all the time and enjoy it; hopefully then it'll sting a little less for you when you see those other roof-locked G80s around town sportin' their CF....

How do you order a 90k car without researching?

Honestly yes I probably would have 100% ordered the carbon roof if I was fully aware of it, but it’s just a right now thing I’ve been beating myself up on. Because while I do love the look of carbon, I also think my dravit grey paint is prettier and I’m going to be adding every other little carbon bit possible on the exterior basically.

Im honestly also just so wierd about the situation, considering I feel like I want the CF roof but is it only because everyone says “it’s not a true M car without it” and everyone else has one?

Because as much as I love CF id never put a CF hood on my car, I love the dravit too much.

I think of the sunroof tilt feature as a second exhaust button. Just listen to the difference between the exhaust sound with the sunroof closed and in its tilted open position. It sounds like a secondary loud exhaust setting.

Once you need a helmet for something you’ll appreciate the extra clearance the CF roof gives.

If you are really having FOMO, you should seriously consider the CF wrap. You get the best of both worlds. Its gonna cost u a bit but at the end of the day you have a “CF roof” that has a sunroof too…lol

I had a sunroof on my 2022 M340i and Loved the air flow through the cabin with everything open.

I replaced it with a slick top 2023 M3 and my dog is openly disappointed by the stuffy interior.

Also I noticed that wind buffeting on the Gxx sedans are horrible. the sunroof on my M340i very easily vented this, but the Carbon roof on the M3 feels like it just reverbs the buffeting amplifying the effect.

There you go, feel better now?

I would pay extra to not have a sunroof, CF roof or not…. Oh, the CF roof does look awesome and is one very noticeable detail that sets apart the M3/4 from the rest of the line.
