Given competitor offerings it seems BMW has this segment of the market all wrapped up. Well done BMW! Oh and the grille looks just fine..
Considering all the great reviews and especially the performance comparisons, is there much to address in the ZF? Sound like it's performing great, assume some reviewers have mentioned it specifically (I've not been through them all).

I'm genuinely struggling to understand the point you're trying to make here.

Are you saying that the F80 was close to the QV despite the power disadvantage (even though you just said you know that BMW understates their power figures)? Or are you saying that the G80 is vastly overpowering the QV and that's why it's faster here? Or something entirely different?

Really makes the Alfa look old. If you didn't know when it was released you would be hard pressed to guess between now and 2000. Great car though, one of my best mates back in England has one as his daily and he's never had any maintenance issues or troubles with it.

If you look at the interior the gap between the Alfa and the Bmw is even larger.

Yeah the new interior is very welcome for me on the G80

Agree it's not a dealbreaker by any means.

Or just get the manual transmission..

The QV may be getting old at this point but I just saw one in Misano Blue the other day and damn did it look great. If the interior was better and it had an AWD option, I'd be interested. This comparison is a good one and shows how good the Alfa is from a performance standpoint. It's an F80 competitor and is barely edged out by the G80. The pecking order remains but it's fairly close.

Agreed. I even see a significant delay in the shift from when the paddle is used. I'm not excited about that at all. The BMW simply sounds like a pure automatic. Such nice paddle shifters, but such a lackluster experience with the transmission.

Here's hoping that Steve simply forgot to put the tranny in its most quick-shifting position (doubtful), and that the delay is reduced when using the most aggressive tranny setting. And I will so miss the DCT blipping of the throttle, the rush of sound to signify a gear change in an aggressive setting.

I'm quite surprised how many reviewers don't complain incessantly about it, especially during spirited or track driving. But I guess all that power and agility makes up for it. Sometimes speed blinds.
ZF8 just needs an XHP flash and it shifts as quick or quicker than the DCT it replaces

Can you expand on that please? The footage states RWD, which would align with AWD not being available in the UK until later on this year.

Thank you. Generally I do like Sutcliff. But this dead wrong talk about G8x weight figures was really curious. He should have double- checked, when he at the same time had to confess, that the G8x feels lighter than the Alfa.
Reality is (several weighings have shown this), that the G8x is approx. 60-70kg (150lbs) heavier than its predessor (F8x). At the same time in past tests, the F8x was a tad bit lighter than the Giulia QV.
Had Sutcliff put both contenders on the scales ... we might have seen a delta of a bit over 100lbs. Thats it.

Sutcliff in the review in the OP is not overstating the G80's weight, he is understating the Giulia's . But in all fairness, he is just quoting official EU weights.

I think you might be underestimating the weight difference between G8X and F8X here. Comparably specced it is more in the 80~110kg range. Based on comparative reviews, the F8X was significantly lighter than the Giulia QV. And based on the numbers I've seen so far, I'd say the Giulia and G80 weigh about the same.

I personally never liked Sutcliff. It is fine to have an opinion, but I've found he often "rigs" his objective numbers to prove his point of view.

Maybe I'm too optimistic.
I'll wait for some more G8x weighings. E.g. by sport auto ... Last time they had a F82 on their scales (model year with OPF, CCB and DCT) it was close to 1650kg.
I still have hopes a G82 competition with track pack comes in at sport auto at 1720kg. But yes, maybe we will see 1750kg and then you are right!
Regarding the Alfa - you are fully right. With the ZF8 I saw already tests, where the Alfa was above 1700kg!

I am indeed looking forward to AM&S/SA weighing as I find them to be a reliable source. I also recall one of the last F8X they tested, which was fully loaded DCT comp pack at 1,644kg. But they also weighed earlier DCT F8X at 1,615~1,625kg and a 6MT at 1,592kg. So far, we have one owner that weighed his G80C (standard seats and iron brakes) at ~1,746kg when corrected for fuel load, so 1,720kg (without driver) does seem very possible for a G82C with the "track pack".

If you look at the opening sequence it shows 4wd mode greyed out in the m drive display... is this a preprod nuance, or is it perm 4wd on this car? Or is it greyed out but has it to fool us? I haven’t sat in a g8x to know if the awd mode is there but not accessible or this car is an awd one. I was presumptive but don’t know for sure. Maybe someone with an F90 knows.

Auto Express got lazy when putting this video together. The iDrive footage is from an F90 LCI

The G8X's iDrive screen has a different shape and, too boot, you can clearly see the M5 pictorial displayed on screen.
