Help

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
We finally decided to say #f***TESLA and my wife decided to go for the G80 non comp with the 6 speed manual and lemon the 2022 model S.
I have always been an M5 guy and currently have a 21 M5 comp and commute in the new i4. We also have a 2006 M3 with 30k miles and a 6spd manual.
Our build (attached) is something we are set on, but I am unsure about one of the options. The CF accessories....on the build site it shows only mirrors covered in CF, but I know there has to be more pieces in CF.
Can you guys show me a picture of your cars that have the CF option. Is it worth it?
Also, what are the best deals that you are seeing on M3 non comps? Is anyone doing MSRP minus $5k?
What else should I be watching out for?
TIA

Carbon Fiber exterior package is CF:
Mirror caps
Front intakes (replaces honeycomb)
Rear valence
Rear spoiler

The picture you posted does not show CF mirror caps, it shows the gloss black.

Yes, that build had everything with the exception of the CF package.
What do front intakes in CF look like?

The pic you posted does not represent the CF Ext. Pkg.
Zoom in on the pic.

YW. For what it’s worth, it’s a LOT more expensive to do it aftermarket, unless you don’t go with OEM CF, and then you have to deal with potentially poor fitting parts.

I was about to ask that question. $4700 seems like a lot for a few bits.
I only buy parts from IND and quality matters a lot for as you can see from my f90 build. Also I don't want to be overloaded with CF so I guess I will check out what IND has and go from there. I appreciate your advice.

From IND’s site:
BMW OEM CF Mirror Caps: $2,235.16
BMW OEM CF Air Inlets: $3,235.84
BMW OEM CF Rear Diffuser: $4,911.00
And the rear spoiler is probably $1000.00

The package is worth it if you want all those items.

If you want one or even two pieces that come from the carbon pkg, best to just option it from the start. You’ll be paying nearly triple the price afterwards for the same OEM pieces. Just ask Limegrntaln about that.

How do you turn $4700 into $11,000? Buy the parts after the fact.

(That was not a jab at you Limegrntaln , sorry, just a joke that came to me)

Yeah, tell me about it. Unfortunately, when I spec'd my car, and it got over $103k, I was like "ah, that's it" No individual color, no carbon exterior. I can add it later, but I got everything else, oh, except carbon buckets.

Yeah, crap. I actually hadn't seen the OEM carbon, in person, and I met up with a local, savi01 M3 with the OEM carbon, and I instantly knew I made a mistake.

I called the next day to try to add it, and my build had gone into 150, that morning. I missed it. Took delivery without it, and it was a long, arduous and painful road.

I actually lucked out on a lot of things. I bought someone's rear diffuser, off of a car that they'd swapped out for the MPE exhaust, for $1,500 ($75 shipping). That was my biggest savings. Well, that and the carbon inlets from the classifieds, brand new for $1,500 for the set.

Carbon oem mirror caps, from Schmeidmnn, $540 each. carbon side grills from the classifieds here, $800 set. OEM carbon wing $450 shipped, from someone that took theirs off, for a duckbill, from the classifieds, here. My detailer polished that up, PPFd it and installed it on my car for me.

So, the actual carbon exterior package, for me, was about $4,600. Everything was new, except the rear diffuser, which was taken off to install the other guys MPE, had delivery miles on it. I also have another knock off carbon diffuser, that I bought from another member, here, for $500. I need to sell that, one day.

Wing, was almost new, like probably before their break-in service was done. Overall, not too bad.

Here’s the OEM mirror caps and OEM side grills.

To give you an additional viewpoint - I was excited to get a 50 Jahre Interlagos M3 until I found out that it did only include some Carbon pieces (and no M Drive professional or whatever). Once I looked at the prices for the rest of the Carbon stuff I made my mind up real quick about the 50 Jahre. Plus black interior is boring even with the stripes. It wasn't worth the premium for what I was looking for given the additional investment in the carbon pieces. They are expensive.

I think the biggest dealbreaker for me, would be, well, it’s an M3. Second, would be there is no full leather or carbon exterior option. $5,000 of it is that front lip and the $2,000 exhaust tips. The carbon exterior can be remedied. It’s the full leather that would have killed it. The full leather is that good of an option, for me.

I like the mirror caps, rear diffuser and intake inlets, but not a fan of cf side grilles.

Another question I had for you M3 heads is the bucket seats. She may take a trip or two from SoCal to NorCal to visit her. Dad. Are the bucket seats bearable on longer trips?

You’ll get a very mixed response and it really is different for everyone. Personally, I find them extremely comfortable and have had no issues being in them for a few hours at a time.
