Age Group breakdown for BMW Owners (as a whole not specific to M)
24 years old and younger: 1%
25 to 54 years of age: 40%
55 to 64 years of age: 29%
65 years old and older: 30%

So M3EATERS is spot on since 25-54 make up 40% of the entire ownership, since M cars are niche cars its more than likely that this age group will have even a larger percentage.

Also from the same market research, "Our data shows that 64% of new BMW buyers are male, compared to 36% female". Again, this is for all models not M specific. Which for M cars its safe to assume that the percentage of male will be higher.

So from a business perspective targeting male who are in the age range of 25-50 makes perfect business sense.

Maybe where you live might have a 50/50 mix of male/female owners but you cannot project that to the rest of the country.

Also, maybe you should go through different sub forums for G80, G82 and F90 to see how many of those members are male vs how many of them are female lol.

Since you are so "woke" maybe you should get your facts straight before getting on the bandwagon lol. Don't claim it if you ain't it buddy.

To get the tread back on rail, the audience they chose looks like more of a PR agenda then true understanding of their own customers. I like where they are going with the cars/performance just not where they are going with the M brand itself. There should be no M cars that are electrified. Just retire the line and preserve its dignity instead of diluting its entire history. That's my 2 cents. Probably will get a lot of hate for it but ask me if I care lol.

Completely agree with you. I'm not sure how you can deny that M has gone through a total transformation and targets a different customer segment. This commercial is one of many examples of that.

It doesn't mean they're bad cars and many people won't like them. But it's natural that they are going to alienate much of their previous customer base.

I read the comments first before watching the ad, so I was prepared for a shit show.

You guys are a tough crowd - that was one of most benign ads they've done in the last few years. If I were to find anything to criticize, it's that they flashed the cars onscreen too fast for the viewer to connect with each one, and i lol'ed at the male narrator sounding like movie bad guy talking through a voice distorter on the phone.

I'll keep my thoughts about those who push back on diversity in advertising to myself, but may I point out that there is no lack of white male representation in this ad. It's beyond me why that allegation gained traction when everyone can disprove it with their own eyes. The main white male character doesn't look over 50 to me, but if he's too old for you, you can find younger guys at 1:02, 1:08, 1:09 and two at 1:14.

The worst part of bmw changing since I joined here almost 15 years ago is that no one can have an opinion any more, regardless of what side they're on. If you for what they put out, you get roasted. If you long for the cars of yesteryear, you get roasted.

Chalk it up to basically how the world works these days- from politics to cars, even social constructs as demonstrated in this thread. If the person doesn't agree with you, they're the enemy.

And THAT, and only THAT is why I am NOT M (aside from not being able to get the m3 touring but that's a whole diff issue)

Or maybe that's why I'm less and less Bimmerpost everyday….

This is a terrible take, by your words they should appeal to the 40% they know they captured rather than try to expand into the 60% they haven't captured yet?

It doesn't make "perfect business sense" to capture the group that already is interested in the brand. You know they're going to be coming around anyway, this vBulletin based forum existing and being active in 2022 is good proof that the late Milennials and older aged people (mostly male, too) are still loyal to this brand, and at the very least would consider a new BMW before purchasing their new car.
