If you have big bucks to spend, I would throw the Porsche Panamera into the mix. Realistically, prices start at 100K and go way, way up from there.

Been through many vehicles over the years but honestly not many daily’s out there as good as something like this. Especially with the car seat and all the baby gear.

Do you have pre-LCI or LCI. How’s the driving performance and air suspension based on your experience ?

The G80 and G81 have both worked fine for family excursions and daily life with two preschool kids. I would certainly not trade it for an SUV.

If I was rich I wouldn't mind complementing it with a diesel truck and something like a 911...

Do yourself a favor and don't test drive the Pacifica Hybrid. I had one as a rental on a business trip last month (they are always out of the "Corolla or similar" that my travel policy specifies), and that is one seriously nice driving family hauler. I'm probably going to ask the agent for it again when I'm back at the end of the month.

This is very hard to answer...honestly, most $50k+ modern comfort car/SUV can easily be a good addition to your G80/82.

Are you in the US? If not, the G81 is the perfect family car which is what we’re doing. I’m moving into a 992 T manual and my wife is taking over the G81.

Man cars have come a long way. The first family car I can remember having to ride in as a youngin in the early 80s was a yellow corolla station wagon with a brown plastic interior. We scribbled all over it in pen. Lmao my pop was cheap and still is even though he could have any car he wants at this point but drives a Toyota rav4

If I had a family, I'd probably go with something like a Toyota highlander

For me, an X7 would be the ultimate family car except not being able to disable auto start stop.

Cargo space would be great for family trip and picking up large items at big box stores. I think cargo space behind second row is around 48 cu ft. Some of the other recommendations mentioned here like X5 are around 34 cu ft. Thats barely more than wifes CX5. She wont drive a larger suv so thar means a third vehicle for us

Also, the X7 is about 204 inches in length so would fit nicely in my 20ft deep garage.

I am contemplating a used X7 but also thinking about a GLS for our family car replacement

You would be happy with both the x7 or thr GLS both ofy sisters own a GLS and they plush and very comfortable . For thr money you will get allot more of an x7 then the GLS. My sister when she built her GLS 13k more then I did on my X7 and I have few more features in the x7. They do t even have wireless Apple carplay like wow.

Really, this is the perfect family car in Australia???

Given Australian roads and many interesting places requiring good ground clearance and even some off-road (dirt/rocky) capability, this would seem like an odd choice.

Aussies love their 4WDs like the Pajero, Prado etc. Much better to just separate the sports car from the family car I reckon. Not saying this is bad choice, but I find it puzzling that an M3 wagon is a "perfect" family car. I suppose it would be ok for suburban stuff like school shuttling and going to Woolies. Also, how do you fit anything back there?

We have one to haul around our four kids. Four years old now and no issues. We're a little over 40k miles and that includes 3 trips to Texas (from California). Perfect car for weekday no gas drives around town. Great gas mileage on freeway drives at California freeway speeds.... it drops quite a bit getting in the 80mph range in the hills.

We’re coming off a Macan GTS and prior to that a X4 M40i and back further a lexus RX. The m3 touring has as much load capacity if not more and actually we much prefer to lower load height and the easy to access glass hatch. We have a 90 pound Swiss shepherd and she can much more easily climb into the M3 than the SUVs. The AWD is great for confidence and we never ‘went bush’. Most importantly the m3T is significantly more enjoyable to drive than the X4 m40i and still better than the macan gts.

There is no way we’ll be going back to any kind of SUV. I can’t speak for every Aussie family. But the growing numbers of M3 Touring owners I know have gone straight to huge fans.

I'm really loving the IX with the upgraded leather option. I think that is one must option on it. Makes it feel way more premium right away. I think I would do that over the x7. Drives better, feels like it has more room minus the 3rd row. But the design of the front definitely feels more open and airy which I like. Back seats have more room too. Plus it's electric which is nice. Feels fast as well. Love the 1 pedal driving that electric provides. it's easier and better to get in and out of the car including for the kids.

But I'm really rocking a Ram 1500 Limited as a family car. Nothing beats that from practically and use. Plus the loaded interior is almost as nice as the beamer and the amount of space and feel is unmatched. My wife won't touch any other car. She loves it.

If pimping is important:
https://www.porsche.com/usa/models/p...sport-turismo/
VERDICT
The Panamera Sport Turismo is more of a style statement than a practical luxury station wagon, but its four-passenger cabin, stonking powertrains, and dialed-into-your-brain handling make it a car worth lusting after.

While I'm single, no wife, no kids, I think the perfect family car would be an X3M Competition.
