I am not a sneaker head nor will I ever will be because I like to get my shoes dirty and worn out by using them. 500 GSM cotton means nothing to me because I can buy 4-5 of similar enough looking items at the retail store made of a polyester cotton blend. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate well made items, and if you want to spend $140 on a sweater, I would never take that away from you. I have a $400 jacket that I love, but those items are few and far between the costco specials I normally get. I will never shop at KITH because a $160 hoodie with a Native American style print in turquoise is not my style. I'm not trying to impress anyone with $55 Lucky Charms gloves. WTF is that anyway?!

Exactly. It doesn't take a genius to use the M colors on the seats then slap a giant KITH logo on the roof. Again, if walmart did it no one would care, but Kith has "followers". It's a cult of personality. It might as well be a Kim Kardashian edition for all I care.

I didn't say it was going away.

It doesn't have to, and yet I don't have to like it, nor does it have to revolve or even target me. Voicing my opinion isn't going to make it go away. I would not be so narcissistic to think that it will. Nevertheless, I will voice my opinion.

Again, I understand the strategy. I am also in my 40's, I've had many bimmers and several M cars. As someone who has a career in media, I know that I am no longer the target demographic. In the past 7 years I've had 7 new bimmers. Like you, I will probably be getting another for my wife in 3 months and I will be shopping for my F80 replacement later this year and then a commuter replacement for my i3 next year. I was hoping the G80 would be in my garage regardless of the questionable marketing because in the end ad agencies make the ad and the engineers make the car. Oops, they lost their long time M head engineer Albert Biermann. This brings me to my last, and most important point:

All this effort to capture a new audience with edgy marketing, youth oriented social media friendly strategies, bold designs and "collabs" with influencers, and they forgot about the car itself.

Any questionable marketing strategies would easily forgiven if the G80 looked beautiful and continued the spirit of what the M3/4 has stood for. You don't have to make a car bigger and heavier to appeal to a new audience. That already existed in the M5.
Well stated and fair point.

Show me another designer who used 500 GSM cotton for sweatshirts and 250 GSM cotton t-shirts? I’ll wait.

Additionally, what you refer to as “using someone else’s design” is called a collaboration or collab, which is exactly what the KITH Car is all about. It’s a G80 M4 with an added touch.

I’m not going to argue or challenge how you define social media (everyone has their own opinion) but the fact of the matter is, it’s here to stay and it’s the way that most companies market their products. I don’t know BMW’s end game but someone in the company felt the current market strategy was the right way forward. As enthusiasts, we have to finally come to the realization that their market doesn’t revolve around us. I’ve been hearing the same argument (what about their enthusiasts) since I joined this forum 10+ years ago. As many of you have said in this forum, “BMW is marketing to people who can’t afford this car, I’m saying BMW is marketing to people who can in a few years and for longer periods of time, than you or I may be interested in their cars. I don’t know about anyone here but I bought (leased) my first BMW at 23 and bought my second at 24 and guess what? I’ve been leasing and buying BMW’s since (now 41). Paid off my E92 M3, will be adding the G80 to the garage (E92 will be daily) and when I get back stateside will lease my wife her BMW of choice. Again because you don’t agree with their marketing doesn’t make it wrong, and doesn’t make it right as you so wisely stated above.
Ironically, I am into high fashion and yet never heard of this KITH until this thread lol but then this isn't my style. My streetwear brands are mostly French/Italian houses ala SLP, MM etc. I wouldn't even call KITH high end fashion either. Like a broken record, I share the sentiment that many others have already conveyed. Marketing for this car makes no sense, the funny thing is I read a few days ago that Lexus is doing the same thing for the newly refreshed 3IS lol.

Complete waste of ad dollars for BMW having green lighted this collaboration. Majority of M3/M4 cars will be sold to the same old demographic aka prior owners and those of us who are coming up from non M cars since it's usually what we aspire to own next. These cars doesn't appeal to the masses or the Kith hoodie wearing, Supreme crowd, that's what the F44 cars are for. M3/M4 along with the M2 are for driving enthusiasts. They're harder edge by default which means the KITH wearing demographic is not the target group.

Is this the last ICE powered M3? Or are we expecting a hybrid next?

I guess with 2 electric motors they could replace the mechanical AWD system but guessing the batteries will bring the weight back if not more?

With new ICE car sales bans coming soon in Europe I somehow don't see BMW developing a new powerplant just for the M3.

Not sure if it will be the last ICE powered M3 but it probably will be the last that's ICE powering all four wheels. I could see the next generation bing ICE powering the rear wheels and electric motor powering the front or possibly even 100% EV depending on how things advance. Either way next generation will likely be heavier as electrification adds weight.

This is most likely the last I-6 BMW M3/M4, next gen most likely to debut as a 4 cylinder hybrid ala upcoming C63 and I won't have any interest in those.

7 years from now

I bet next m3/m4 might be all electric.

Model 3 performance is like 4100 lbs.

G80 m3 with awd is going to be close to that.

7 years of battery technology will get us, I assume, 400 mi real world range in next 7 years.

Taycan is starting to show what an m5 electric car might look like.

If gm and Ford sell electric pick up type things, battery cost per watt is going to come down in a hurry.

Instant torque and maybe 3 motors in 2028 could be a pretty exciting m3/m4 proposition.

That and by then maybe a bunch of tracks will have high speed charging. The one near me already has a high speed charger.

The electrons are coming.

I think that this will be the last full ICE generation.

The M CEO said in a video interview that in near future (next 5Y) there will be M hybrids and full M EVs coming.

And as you already mentioned, already by 2025 some countries will stop imports / registrations of ICE only new car models.

Since we've been talking about BMW's absolutely bizarre marketing campaign, not just for the G80/82 but also for the iX...

It looks like BMW CAN still make some great ads when it wants to. Why couldn't all BMW marketing be like this?? This makes me absolutely want to buy an M5 CS... and gives me goosebumps in the process.

i may be in the minority but I don't like the M5 CS at all...for me personally this is absoloutely overkill. It's in a luxury segment and not meant to be for racing purpose imo.

But each their own.

I do completely love the M3CS and the M2CS. If I ever get hand on one of this (M2CS only MT) i will straight out buy one. They will hold their value extremely high

Now take the M5CS ad, and apply it to the M3

Omg - folks have been spot on with their thinking. BMW hasn't lost their mind. They just think we're old and are more the target audience for the M5, not M3.

Ouch - thats a gut punch.

That being said, the M5 CS ad is spot on. But look at the guy who "owns" the M5. Look at the 0:30s mark. He looks around as if he's disoriented, having a psychotic break or sundowning! Perhaps he starting down the road to old aged dementia? Whatever is happening, he's been placed so everyone is certain that he's getting on a bit in terms of age.

Well the jokes on BMW - I wouldn't consider an M5 unless I was a 100 years older. Now excuse me while I go and cry in the corner....

I may be mistaken, but I believe the person in the M5CS video is the legendary Kith.

Yes, it was a puzzle to me. Can someone pls enlighten on why that man (owner) looked the way he did, ie blur? I don't know whether he was the driver of the white motorsport car when he was young, but he shouldn't have been portrayed as someone "lost" now. It was otherwise a good video.

I love the M5CS. If you follow that forum the few complaints seen are about the car not being exciting enough as a daily. It’s a bit muted in feedback and feel a bit bland unless you step on it and get the acceleration rush. The looks are also slightly conservative. The M5CS seem to be the antidote to that. Sharper handling, more feedback, more agility etc. pretty much the ultimate M5 for those that prioritize the driving experience and look to trade up from an M3. And it looks anything but boring

Nope, not going to happen for the M5CS. Sportier, yes but will have to go above speed limit for the thrill - due to its weight, steering and transmission. The G8X AWD will be close, if not the same.

edit: plus size

After driving my 2021 M340xi with the cooling M Technology package for a week I can't imagine how much better the M3 could be. I definitely won't be ordering an M3 now because I was planning on trading the M340xi for an M3 XDrive in one or two years. Is possible that I can still change my mind but the new M3 has to be much better than the 340i for that to happen, will see what the reviews say.
