I'd like to verify something here:

I've read several posts suggesting US allocation of ONE car per dealership.

In Australia, the directive my dealer received stated MINIMUM OF ONE car per dealership.

Can anyone verify this in the US?

I highly doubt every dealer here in the US will get one, their are many places where bmws don’t sell well, it’s merica.

But that's not a definite answer (even though perhaps true in reality).

Given they can produce as many, or as few, in numbers, I wish to know if dealers were told ONE ONLY, or like in Australia, AT LEAST ONE per dealer

I guess that’s true. But I think it’ll be more then one for high volume dealers. They didn’t put a production number on the car they put a production run on it (1 yr) which seems like maybe after all the dealers have received their cars and sold them will maybe receive another allocation if it falls within a valid timeline similar to the allocation process rn, how fast the turnaround is. But that’s just my educated guess

Having seen the communication sent to dealers, its 1 per US dealer for the model year. Logically, they could do more, and i'd hope they would as the way this was handled is ridiculous (specs had to be locked in today).

But the M5 CS was similar, additional allocation trickled in but the US ended up with only about 400 in total.

Communication has been 1 per dealer. Nothing else has been mentioned. Production runs from March to December 2023.

everything is speculation. The only true thing is that each US dealer will get one. There has been no mention of more than that to dealers.

My guess is you don't have a lot of HPDE experience and you think lap times is what matters, take your time doing track days smoothly with instructors and you will understand.
Whoa! High level of hostility here.

To use a legal analogy, you're assuming facts not in evidence.

My track experience - 2 years/20 track days total all w/ the M8. I've run HPDE w/ BMW/PCA throughout New England. Now in the Upper Intermediate run group (BMW).

The instructor corps at BMW/PCA is what got me from rank Novice, never driven on track, to Upper Intermediate run group at BMW in those 20 track days.

Got 10 months to go until the lease is up on my '21 M8CompGC. Want to see if another car (or stay w/ the M8) will get me to the next level - thru Upper Intermediate into the Advanced run group.

I've seen enough in 2 years on track. Ideally it's a P car - GT3 or GT3/RS. Not going to happen. MSRP is $175K and up + who knows how much ADM + 1 1/2 - 2 year wait.

Seems to me, my 2 easiest choices are: buy out/buy new the M8 or M4CompxD. Never driven the M4 on track. M4 CSL colors don't appeal to me. M3 CS Signal Green is possible, color looks good to me but IMSA runs M4 not M3.

I know the differences in curb weight. Like to know lap time (ring time) of the M3 CS and read reviews when they come out.

Put it all together and make a decision.

No reason to get into a spitting contest w/ you. Help me to choose. Please, anybody else chime in.

Anything will be better than an M8 for track days.

It's the driver, not the car. Having said that G8X will be a better choice for HPDE just based on size/weight and chassis dynamics. CSL or CS would be even more potent.

With the amount of events you do, I guess that begs the question: why not look into a more dedicated track car? E9X and F8X are fantastic options with a ton of track support, are relatively cheap to run, and are lower weight. Don't need the latest and greatest car to get into the most advanced run groups.

OK, so you basically confirm you don’t have much track experience

Correct. As you highlighted, 2 years/20 track days.

To repeat, the instructor corps at BMW/PCA is what got me from rank Novice, never driven on track, to Upper Intermediate run group at BMW in those 20 track days.

Now w/ my M8 lease coming up in 10 months, I need to make a decision, to stay w/ it or go to something like an M3/M4. In this upcoming year I want to improve on this modest success, to get me to the next level - thru Upper Intermediate into the Advanced run group.

I've looked at M3/M4 and CS/CSL versions. Want to see ring time for the M3 CS, peruse upcoming reviews, read helpful advice (thanks to Higgs Boson and RugbyBro for their contributions) and put it all together to make a decision.

You're welcome to do the same.

I am just pulling your leg .

The ethos of the M3/4 has always been about dual use: a practical daily driver that can romp the track. I’ve used three generations of M3/4 for that exact purpose over 20 years and they have served me extremely well. The CS and CSL simply push the dual use balance more towards the track but still maintaining good practicality. The last one I owned was an F82 M4cs, which is the best ///M I’ve owned by far. The fact that I was 2.5 seconds per lap faster on the same tires compared to my 2014 M4 is quite telling to the capability of the CS. I can’t tell for sure how much better the G8X CS/CSL are because I haven’t driven one on track, but I am would not be surprised BMW worked their magic again this time.

Yes. It’s the same as the CSL grill, and many members have already installed factory CSL or CSL-style grills.

After being #1 on a CS interest since May ‘22 with a $1K deposit, I’m being offered a black ‘23 CS with Gold wheels at MSRP + some protection package which is likely front PPF and some ceramic coating for $3K. It’s take as is with no say how it’s optioned.

I already have a black ‘22 CX which I’ve modded to the tune of $20K so far.

Since I can’t pick the color on the CS, I would love Frozen White, I’m about to tell the tell the dealer that I’ll pass.

Am I making a mistake?

I think if you like black, I’d take it. I think blah will be rare (probably the most rare) CS color and will arguably look the best. It’ll hide the ugly exposed carbon on the hood. Otherwise, taking care of a black car is PITA.

I had an offer for 5k over on an M3 CS. I already secured one with my ideal specs locked in so I don't want this one. This one is frozen white with black wheels with non-cup 2s / black steel calipers. PM me if you are interested and I will pass along sales information.

Nothing in it for me just trying to help someone looking for one!

Speaking of dealer markups in the US: I even got a 5% discount at my dealer here in Germany, haven't even asked for it.

Once this car gets on a drag strip in Youtube videos, and out on a track, "sold" cars at $25k ADM in the U.S. will be common. It will be similar to the M5 CS.

I think the people going "should i buy at a 5k-10k ADM" will be wondering why they passed.
