Poll: Wireless charger

I've seen plenty of comments that have trashed the wireless charger (slow to charge, overheat, etc.), but recently have come across a couple that were more complimentary. So, I figured I'd conduct a highly-accurate, large-sample, peer reviewed poll here and find out whether people like it or not.

I'm wondering if perhaps it works better with certain phone models? (I've got a Galaxy S21, FWIW.)

Thanks!

I honestly think that it only works well if you DON'T do anything with it while charging, no streaming, no car play. I brought this up a while ago. I don't CarPlay and my music is off of a very large flash drive with FLAC files on it...and my wireless charging works pretty darn well. So does my SO's in his 530e...he also doesn't use anything on the phone while it's charging.

I have an s21 ultra and I love the wireless charger. No it's not a fast charger, but I love a nice clean look in my cabin so I appreciate not having to plug my phone into a wire, and the wireless charger does a decent job of giving me a small charge on short trips.

Interesting, but that's a little lame IMO. I currently use my phone constantly with Android Auto and would expect to keep that up with the M3.

It is a little lame, assuming that my supposition is accurate (I haven't actually tested it), but phones can heat up and experience excessive drain when they aren't being charged...add charging to a busy processor and auxiliary chips and it may just be a technical limitation. I have friends who have similar issues on a variety of cars that DO use streaming/CarPlay/Stuff while charging.

Again, just making an educated guess here as to what's going on...not stating anything I know to be a fact.

Cool

I would not order it again. The new iPhone 13 Pro Max with an Otterbox case will not fit. The center console has a USB C port as the Pro Max uses. I waisted 500. The battery management compared to the SamsungGalaxy S20 FE 5G I shit can is stellar. The processor/electronics are efficient with Apple. Samsung charged hot through USB and the wireless charging pad in the console I had in the Audi. Longevity does not appear to be a problem with Apple. The Samsung ate battery juice.

Charges slow compared to wired chargers out today, gets phone overly hot. Not worth it.

This is 100% what I will add to this conversation. It charges at the speed of stink, and it gets the phone atomic fire, hot, and I've even had the phone shut off, with a heat warning, with my Qi charger, in my other car. It's the same exact system. Its the standard. They are all the same for the iPhone.

They charge like 5% an hour, and smoke the phone in the process. The battery degrades like crazy, from the heat of wireless charging. I've had it in 4 cars, now, and 3 different brands, and they are all exactly the same, garbage.

I don't think the wireless charger is related to the digital key access?

I think you need to put your phone on the charger to start the car if I'm not mistaken.

Ive done the wireless charging retro fit twice now. Both of my cars did not heat up my iphone 13 pro. Did it get warm, yes. But HOT? Not even close. For those who say its gets SO hot, is your phone naked? Because I have a silicon case and mine does NOT get hot by any stretch. I admit, that it doesnt charge very fast. But it works for me good enough and I like having it for sure.

Yes it is. You either have the NFC reader or the NFC/WIFI charging. Ive done the retrofit twice and its the same part but with wifi charging added to it. You can buy the part and it takes 10 mins to plug and play.

Looking at the poll results... I wonder if I lucked out with both of my cars?

Both my G05 and G20 wireless chargers are totally fine. My phone doesn't get hot in either of them, and they provide a decent charge (not a fast charger by any stretch, but reasonable).

It charges my iPhone 13 pro max so slowly I don't use it often. For short trips sometimes I throw it on there. But for anything where I need it to actually charge, I just plug it in.

It's not related to the charger. The NFC Pad happens to be in the same spot as the charger for convenience

I've posted about it multiple times previously so I won't rehash here, but it would be hard for it to be more worthless.

so it's not related to the Digital Key? A car w/o wireless charger will come with Digital Key?

Yes - I don't have wireless charging because of the chip shortage. But I have the digital key. Not upset about missing out on the wireless charging - in my other beemer it makes my iPhone 12 super hot. Don't use it in that car anymore.
