Reading this thread with great interest. I moved from TX to MO years ago and didn't have a front plate bracket on my car. Super busy so it wasn't taken care of quickly.

Got pulled over and given a compliance ticket. I took care of the issue but didn't bother to do whatever paperwork or validation was required. Long story but 2 years later it cost me a day in jail.

Here in Maine you're supposed to have the front plate, but I see two G8xs regularly here with no front plates.

I'm tempted to go without, but I cannot stand interacting with cops. Especially over trivial bullshit. Would be the tow hook option if I do put it on the front right away, though

Depends on the vehicle. I don't run a front plate on my Macan all the time, but then again its an SUV.

Cops in my area don't pull you over just for missing front plates, but they do add it to the ticket for other moving violations....

Got my G80 yesterday and mounted my EOS Bracket. I live in Los Angeles and I'm tired of getting fix tickets from the Police (E46 3x, VW CC 2x) they are getting expensive and annoying.

I agree that I think it would look odd to have a U.S. plate over the grill. But my state requires front plates so want to figure out what my options are to avoid that. Thanks
NY does too and I've never installed one. I do live in the suburbs but even going into the city, never had an issue.

When I picked up my car, the CA made a point of showing me they hadn't drilled the bumper for a front plate, even though they are required in CO.
My understanding is that it is not an actionable offense, they won't pull you over for no front plate, but you can be ticketed while parked.
I avoid Denver as much as possible so I decided to roll the dice.
My temporary plate has been expired for almost a month while I wait for plates and they told me they can issue another temporary, but that I don't really need to worry about it because the State Patrol and everyone else knows how far behind they are.

Wow that's whack. Blows my mind cops hand out fix it ticket for no front plates in major cities. Meanwhile they'll turn a blind eye to a crack head throwing feces at a parked car.

Front plate mount's looking good though

Easy mod to the supplied US plate mount allows mounting it without drilling/screws.

I drilled 4 holes in the plastic mount to the sides of the center grill column, then used heavy duty long nylon zip ties through those holes then wrapped around that same grill column to anchor the mount in place. Plenty secure, and you can’t see the zip ties unless you’re looking really closely. Most of what would be visible ends up under the plate.

I also live in LA area and have been ticketed before for no front plate, so just wanted not to deal with it. Wasn’t about to drill my car or let the dealership do it though…

I'm about to get my M3 next week and living in Ottawa I think I have to throw on the front plate. It would appear from my searches that the rho-plate is the only option (other than the dealer drilled into the grill non-option) that does not interfere with the sensors (parking and ACC). Is this correct? Would anyone have some pics of their M3 with a rho-plate on? Are they fairly easy to install/remove? I'm thinking of purchasing it, but going for the no plate look until I get my first ticket. =D

Thanks for your help in advance!

I don't have a G80/82, but use the Sto N Sho mount on my F82 & GLE and they work well. Can remove and mount plate in seconds and mount is almost invisible.

I like the look of the Sto n sho, will they cover the drivers assistance sensor?

You know that you’re going to get one real soon since you posted that right?

I'm a little old-fashioned -- the law says I need to run a plate so I do. I mounted a STO N SHO almost a year ago and it has taken a beating. A little scraping on the bottom edge (that's on me) and some $%#$ hit the plate (with a tow hitch?) and broke the nice clear cover I had covering the plate. Still running the plate full-time with the STO N SHO but I am weakening -- might put the factory plate base on <shudder>

Carbonio is your answer. They make both North America and European version. It’s center mounted in the grille so it looks OEM as if it were actually drilled into the front bumper. Mounts on and off in 10 secs. The tow hitch options are to mount the plate without drilling into the bumper. Although this is an option, you cannot uninstall it quick. With the carbonio you can pop it off easily to take pics or for meets! Plenty of threads on carbonio if you need to read more on it!

It seems great as a quick on and off mount, however I thought Carbonio would block the ACC sensor? I worry that if I have to make it a relatively permanent option (after getting a ticket) then I'll have to buy something else as I want the ACC to work.

That's why I was leaning for the rho-plate.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I do think that location looks good and the fact that it comes on and off so quick is great. It's the darn ACC I worry about. Also, I plan on making this my daily driver and with all the snow we get I worry that it will get knocked off on a really snowy day (given that it's so low).

You can pay the ticket. A homeless person can’t.
