I forgot I had an STi also. I think the M3 should be pretty awesome in the winter, at least that's the hope.

Any new AWD BMW will do great in winter, in particular with a dedicated set of winter tires.

When I first go "into cars" a bunch of my friends had EVOs and STIs. I never had an AWD car but the performance was insane in those cars. Now I can have the best of both worlds and have a little bit better traction in the rain.

AWD for me.

Dam, I really wanted this option but the only car I found to spec is MISSING this one thing

Concerned driving in RWD with zero traction could get extra extra rowdy but I know this car isn't a mustang haha

Wondering how those who dont have this option are holding up when trying to have some RWD fun.

To each his own. RWD for me because 1. more fun, more character at every turn, if I had AWD I'd be in RWD all the time 2. I never drag my car so 0-60 is irrelevant to me but weight and break distance matter to me on the track, I feel the car is already heavy and with more weight on the front axel makes it unattractive to me.

I havent driven a G80 and leaning on the input from insightful owners on this forum and reviews like the one below.

https://www.carthrottle.com/post/g80...tter-with-awd/

Because it appears that the chassis and suspension is so much more planted than the F80, traction is a big improvement either way.

Living in the Northeast, I still feel AWD is more suitable for my needs and wants. If the journalist is right, I will unlikely use 2WD mode given the RWD bias of the AWD. Where the journalist is wrong is that purists can make an argument for RWD if they also go manual. I am moving on from manual RWD as a daily but dont think there is a better alternative than the G80 AWD

AWD is going to be the more performant option... but lets be real. If you're on the street, you'd rather be a show-off.

RWD all the way.

Ive got a RWD M3C and love it.

Impressed with the grip so far and nowhere near as rowdy as I expected.

Sheer impatience and a gr8 deal made me opt for RWD as I couldnt wait for AWD to be released.

Given how good the AWD has proven to be id have had it in a flash but the RWD is still bonkers fast, too fast for the road but hellish fun!

Definitely AWD here. Primary reasons are 1) 0-60 acceleration; and 2) better handling in inclement weather (as mine will be a daily driver).

Hi all , I had the same questioning here and I'm used to AWD performance cars ( 997 C4 and 991 C4S) but decided to go RWD this time. I used to have in the old days an 88 325i ( E30 Series) and I had a lot of fun. Since it will be my summer toy , I do not regret the choice at all

I opted to go with RWD because it was very highly spec'd, it was in my colour and it was available immediately AND because I got a great deal on it. Brother-in-law sorted me a good deal at his dealership.

Even in RWD its a bloody road rocket. it makes me laugh to myself whenever I get the opportunity to put my foot down because its so stupidly fast. Makes me wonder just how all these supercars / hypercars negotiate normal roads with their 700bhp+ let alone those nearer and beyond 1000bhp. ;-p

Anyway, If I was buying now, I'd opt for AWD but not because of any negative feelings towards RWD because Ive found the grip to be excellent and way better than expected and more than adequate for my driving style but because why not? Xdrive is proving to be a more rounded performance vehicle. Its quicker (I dont need this) has even more grip (handy when Ive a family to cart about, less to consider/fear when on the move) and will no doubt hold its value better in the long term. We shall see.

They don't, at least not the RWD ones. My neighbor sold his X3M (good market conditions) and got a 700hp Dodge Charger Hellcat. The noise is intoxicating but he said traction is always a problem and the car might as well have had 5000hp since he can't use it. He misses his X3M.

* Not to say I'm in the xDrive camp; I'm planning to order a 6MT! But when you're talking about 700+hp, I think AWD is the only sensible choice. Actually, there's nothing sensible about 700hp in a road car

RWD for me only because 6 speed MT. If I was going auto it would have to be the Xdrive. My car is also away for the the winter so the RWD is fine for me.

I'm currently in an RWD, but ordered an AWD.

The car is my daily driver and I live in a climate where it rains and snows most of the year.

Also with the AWD, you get a special kind of Jekyll and Hyde personality in the car: At the touch of a button I can throw in 2WD mode and hoon out if I have the desire.

Snow driving isn't even a contest.

I got RWD because I didn't want to wait. I like the feeling of the steering wheel being connected to the front wheels. I live in the snowy midwest, but I do not take this car out in the winter (salt!). I think the xDrive is an awesome system, but I am plenty happy with RWD and don't plan on changing.

I also am coming from the F80 and that was much worse traction-wise, and I managed that just fine. This is already an improvement.

Does the xDrive model utilize rear-wheel steering? Can anyone confirm?

(Just being a smart-ass, sorry.)

I opted for RWD because I'm a race car driving purist.

Jk.

I snagged one of the first 21's available in my area back in April. If AWD was available then, I probably would have done it.
