The gun crowd can be characterized as hysterical because they don't believe statistics. I mean, the gun deaths in Canada are not comparable to those in the US, probably because they have better (not perfect) gun laws. We won't even mention Australia.... |

It's just that I don't want to go through that hassle. I also feel that I'd be more susceptible to a break-in in Canada because of having a gun in the house (maybe I'm wrong on that perception...) I fully agree with you on the tried by 12 than carried by 6 thing - so in the US, I keep firearms. |

And on a lighter note, we deal with mental midgets on a daily basis. Any insults, prejudices and Holier Than Thou moral lectures from the uninformed woke crowd is just water on a duck's back.

It’s a dead giveaway when you start mentioning Australia, by the way…

Just saw on one of our regional news web sites that our county's sheriff is issuing these to all deputies. Is this an April Fools joke, or an actual tool being offered to police forces? Do they actually work to stop someone who is fleeing?????

I don't know much about Australia other than it's illegal to own a firearm unless it's registered by serial number and the owner must have a license. |

2. The anti-gun side doesn't believe statistics either unless they're extremely cherry picked with little context to "support" the anti-gun side 3. We are at risk of getting this thread pruned due to political discussion, which Jason has kindly but firmly requested we refrain from on this forum. If this were a regional forum or something I'd say let's meet up and hash it out over beers but yeah. DM me if you're genuinely interested in learning more and having this discussion. This next is for LB: 4. Don't EVEN bring up "well the CDC was banned from studying and that's why the statistics..." as your next train of thought. I've been round and round and round this discussion.

You can go round & round your toilet bowl, for all I care. CDC Study Ban?: "Passed in 1997 with the strong backing of the NRA, the so-called "Dickey Amendment" effectively bars the national Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from studying firearm violence...." "Besides, experts say, non-partisan research could uncover a plethora of suggestions to help stem the tide of violence -- education strategies, guns storage solutions, etc. -- that don't include limiting access to guns. "Violence prevention researchers are invested in less violence, not fewer guns," Corby said. "Their end game is not to take away guns."" https://www.gunpolicy.org/templates/...tpage-head.jpg https://abcnews.go.com/US/federal-go...ry?id=50300379 Last edited by Littlebear; 05-14-2021 at 04:59 AM.. |

"Dozens of movies have portrayed the nineteenth-century mining camps in the West as hot beds of anarchy and violence, but John Umbeck discovered that, beginning in 1848, the miners began forming contracts with one another to restrain their own behavior (1981, 51)." "The mining camps hired “enforcement specialists”—justices of the peace and arbitrators—and developed an extensive body of property and criminal law." ie: they made laws. |
