I have a driven a ZF8 gearbox on a race car. It s to slow if you compare it to a dct gearbox. DCT is much more fun in driving and gives still a manual shift feeling.
Zf8 or DCT —-> DCT no question If i only have a choice ZF8 or Manual ——> Manual no question DCT or Manual. Love both AWD no not in an M3. AWd is nice in a rallybred hothatch with nice mechanical diffs. |

I know that’s the expected result...disappointing for sure.
I’m not claiming to be a DCT purist. Rather I like the feel and experience associated with a double clutch gearbox (PDK was even better). Too many manuals in my past to list, and just isn’t interesting to me anymore...fun in short bursts for sure, but no desire to drive in Chicago traffic with a manual.

No need for AWD. Fastest E92/F82s around Suzuka run in 6MT and 295 width square tires and have excellent traction.

All wheel drive is meaningless in the rain, and in the snow it only helps accelerate from a stop easier. Doesn't make a car stop or steer.
Many moons ago I bought a 2 year old bug eye WRX wagon. It was early spring, the car was on half used up all Toyo Proxies and we got a late snow. Make no mistake in an empty parking lot it was a fun donut machine, but I almost stuffed a curb trying to get the car stopped. By the time winter rolled around I bought a set of Firerstone snows and mounted them on the original 16s, the car was much more sane to drive in the snow, you know being able to turn and stop. Fast forward to my 330i (still have it). Rear wheel drive and never a bit of trouble in the snow, I've tried a couple different brands of tire, theyre all good. Mine has a limied slip diff, that may have helped a little in getting rollling, or it may have just slowed rear brake pad wear. We get legit snow in Buffalo. Some years. I can't see adding weight and additional maintenance to a car because it might snow 50 days a year.

You're missing the context. The G8x would be about 150lbs lighter with RWD than a G8x with AWD

Seems to me that BMW will end up making the G80 M3 to look like a small M5 -wide fenders on the front only. I have no concerns about the expected performance of the G80 M3, regardless of RWD or AWD. But this is not the M3 to go back to the E36 M3 bodykit after seeing the nondescript G20 3-Series styling. Styling brutality is essential in any M3 or no sale.

In ASP or STU RWD M cars cant compete against awd cars! This year the top 5 cars were Evos in ASP, last year top 3 cars were Evos. |

All 3 series including the M3 will lose >100 lbs comparably equipped. More aluminum and high strength steels are used. The E90 was actually the heaviest 3 series. The F30 was a bit lighter and the G20 will be lighter still. Same deal with the E90>F80>G80.
