I'm going to order this but I think the factory start/stop has a more satin finish. Anyone have the satin one installed? What do you think. It looks like all the ones I'm seeing here are glossy.

Yes, Start button is satin.
Most guys goes with gloss since it catch your eyes better.
But, some guys also do Satin.
In a glance, you can really tell the difference since it is so small.
So, can't go wrong either way.

I can't get the silver ring off even with a pry tool. It moves a little but I'm afraid of breaking something.

Turn it and try from different end.
Once you get one end lifted a little, turn it 180Ί and pry.

I have encountered a few where it comes off like butter just by grab and pull.

This worked for me. That and prayer.

I did the drill method - install done, painlessly, in about 90 seconds. Old button went in the trash, piece of cake.

does anyone have some good photos of a Satin button. I only see gloss. I like the satin button as it would match the normal red OEM start stop button. Thank you.

This thread gave me so much anxiety for changing out a stupid little button. FYI - Neither video worked for me so I wound up having to use two pry tools; one on each side to safely pop off the ring.

In the end, this small little mod that adds a nice pop! Oh and I was worried that the gloss red wouldn't match but it's not noticeable under natural lighting IMO.

I tried the RSG method but couldn’t lift the silver ring from the base so I tries your two pry tool method on each side and wound up popping out the entire knob intact with the silver rind still attached! Talk about anxiety. After much kanas hint of teeth and a flashlight I was able to pop the knob assembly back in place. Thankfully I didn’t break it. However, I am back to square one trying to get the silver ring off #*!

Ugh, you should've just pop the button right there on before re-install the whole knob back. lol.
You can poke the button from the back if you have the whole knob assembly off.

Yes I realized that when I tried the pliers method and popped out the entire knob again! Even with a thick towel on the silver ring, the pliers left marks on the silver ring. Wound up pulling the knob apart into two pieces and popped the red button in the knob. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get the vol level again when popping the entire knob assembly back in the head unit like I did the first time! Now the vol isn’t perfectly level. Must have been extremely lucky the first time I popped it back in with the factory vol left alone- . Don’t know how to fix that but at least I have the red button now .

The silver ring have splines. You will have to re-insert it to a correct splines, otherwise it won't sits flat.

It sits flat. What I meant was the vol lettering not being level on the horizontal axis.

Ahh, most likely the whole assembly didn’t lined up properly when you re-insert it.

I spent at least an hour to try and get it all lined up correctly but this was the best I could do. I must have gotten really lucky when I reinserted the unaltered knob the first time. Do you know how difficult it is to remove the entire control unit?

Not that hard. Plastic pry tool will pop the whole assembly out.

Just did this on mine. Felt like it wasn’t wanting to pry off but then simply pulled on the silver ring with one hand while using the pry tool and it popped off easily. Then used the flathead screwdriver to pop out the insert with a simple twist at 90 then 270 degrees on the knob. Ring didn’t go all the way flush and hits a tiny bit of resistance on turning once assembled so maybe it’s not exactly aligned. Will try and pop it back off and re-align.

Anyone have them installed? I found a similar one on amazon I'll try those first, because they have a 2-3 week ship time.
