I'd like to see a review of the OE* vs regular tire after 8000 miles have been put on the tires. I always wonder if the OE* are engineered to be really good for initial impressions and reviews.

Pilot Super Sport * (oem) vs S4 after market (non oem)
My M550 came with Pilot Super Sport * (oem), the fronts did not wear well and considering replacing with non oem S4's since there is no * spec for the sizes I need (245/35x20 & 275/30x20). Now after seeing how much different tech went into the BMW * spec S4's I wonder if anyone can comment on any differences related to the oem and after market version of the Super Sports.

The BMW M engineers rave about the Pirelli's, that's why I'm not upset when my X5M comp came with P zeros from the factory. My future G83, what ever the factory installs. When we return our leased cars in the US, I have not be specifying BMW star tires from Costco when I replace my tires. Doubt that BMWFS will catch onto this as the end of lease genius will all have to be trained to look for the star tires at lease end.

Interesting. When it came to getting replacements on Tirerack, I'd always spring for the cheaper PS4S variant having no idea what that BMW * spec meant. Might be worth shelling out the extra $25 for the * spec tire.
Might also be worth noting when shopping for a wider tire too. Could be worse than OE! |

Great video. I’m just like everyone else that didn’t know but I wonder if Ppl that didn’t get the tire from factory would notice the difference on their everyday commute? Looks like you will on the track!

What's more interesting is how much more he love Goodyear's similar offerings above Michelins. Though those were non star specs. Dude has loads of great content on his channel.

Speaking of Goodyear, that company's OE tire for the 911 is a topic for debate on Porsche forums. The N-Spec Goodyear or the N-Spec Pirelli are the two OE 911 tires, with people claiming the Goodyear pales in comparison. I'm hoping to get the Pirelli's myself, but I also have no experience with the Goodyear. Some say the OE spec Goodyear is impressive. Gahhhhh! So much confusion!

I'll repost here what I had posted in the original thread:
First, it just shows how important it is putting the right spec tire on car, it can make a huge difference. Second, it is interesting to see that BMW focused more on dry grip at the expense of wet grip for the G8X. They did the opposite with the F8X OE tires. Third, WOW ~2 seconds difference per minute lap on the dry vs the already quite good standard PS4S . The standard PS4S was already confirmed as being over 1 second faster than the star spec PSS on the F8X. Just shows how much of the G8X performance gains is in the tires . Fourth, I would have loved to try these star spec 19"/20" PS4S on my M4cs, but it will be gone before I have a chance to do so

That's one of the things they usually will cash in on, so they will typically catch it - but there is always a possibility you get lucky, I suppose |
