Just caught this thread and checked my VIN. Im currently on the Hawaiian Highway on the way to the US. only saw this in the UK checker.
"technicalCampaigns": [also saw this but vin status is "closed" so looks like this was taken care of already. "recallType": "no recall",Looks like I dodged this bullet. thank you to the OP and everyone else who posted how to check.

Good decision. You don’t want to buy a new car that is defective.

I don't think they'll risk having a dealer tech replace main bearings lol it's probably going to require a new bare engine and all the components will be transferred over to it. Sorry for those that have to go through this.

I agree that it is much more cost effective to BMW to just replace the engine rather than pay a dealer to rip the engine apart and with all of the potential problems and future liability for potential mistakes being made on the field. I have personally seen a BMW in the shop under warranty with a transmission failure and alongside the car a brand new transmission in a crate ready to go in.
FWIW I do feel your pain and concern though. I would need a bucket of Xanax to cope, just sayin. |

Everyone losing their mind here is comical. There's no repair process or inspection available. Relax ladies and gentlemen. These cars will be fine. |

I love this guy ! if only you saw some of these letters it would have you on the floor
But seriously people all products have a certain failure rate. BMW is required by law/NHTSA to post information like this in a certain time frame. This is why you see a recall post without all the information. Let’s wait and see it could be something as simple as a check with no major repairs needed and BMW as usual is just going to error on the side of caution. |

There were entire race shops that would absolutely not build one of these motors, even if you were replacing the crank, rods, and pistons, with something they sold, because they still walked. And whats crazy is, they didnt start having the problem until the motors were older, usually more than 40K miles, but once the first one walked, people were having the motors rebuilt, under warranty, 2-3 times, because they just kept crankwaking. They were literally rebuilding motors that hadnt crank walked, strengthening the bottom end with forged components, and putting the motor back in the car, and it would crankwalk, even after the stock motor had never done it. I hope this isnt a thrust bearing issue we are going to be chasing for years to come. I know, calm down, we dont know what the deal is, Im just sharing a story.
