How does one get the small panel between the shifter assembly and phone pocket off to be able to get at the front 2 screws for the shifter assembly? I put a lot of pressure on it in lots of different directions but was afraid of breaking something

The shifter trim? I managed to lift it at the front a bit and just jiggle it and pull it up. Hard to explain but ya, pita for sure.

I do it so the tach and gear selected show up in the HUD. If the tach and gear displayed in the HUD automatically or with a different setting, I doubt I’d ever switch M-modes. This whole M mode is poorly implemented, IMO.

Same. I truly find it amazing that BMW didn't include the tach in the HUD and instead has a useless blue bar. I drive the car in sequential mode 100% of the time, so having the tach is very useful.

Thanks. That sounds like a great reason as I use the HUD a lot. I don't like taking my eyes off the road. I just didn't see much advantage in the instrument panel.

I have tried getting used to using sequential mode exclusively also as I miss driving a manual transmission. It was a tough decision to buy my G82 with an automatic (but logic prevailed). My biggest problem is accessing the paddles during a sharp turn and even if I use the shifter the car is very touchy in 1st gear. If I have to let off the throttle quick I get severe oscillation's.

God, I tried everything to the point of expecting it to break any second and it wouldn't budge. I wish I could see how it is attached.

Just installed this module in my manual m4. Install was even easier than what I saw being required for an auto. Can be done in under 3 minutes being very careful.
Great product and seller communication. |

I had a terrible time getting the front of the trim panel to release so once I accomplished it I took some photos. The two locking tabs have a ramp for installation but for removal the locking tabs have a flat that prevents pulling them straight out (without the risk of breaking something) requiring the tabs to be pushed in manually. Two things complicate that. The first is finding the location of the locking tabs and the second is that there is a post on each side of the tab so if the pry bar (ou whatever you are using to push the tabs in) is too wide you cannot push the tab in to release it. From the photos you can see what the tabs look like and where they are located. I put a punch mark in the edge of the trim panel (cannot normally be seen without a mirror) next to each tab to make it easier to find the tab locations in the future.

That panel is definitely not fun the first time around, but the next time it came out much quicker.

For the life of me I wonder why they had to change just those two clips to plastic where they are subject to breaking and difficult to remove. Why not keep them all metal already?
