KW V5 vs Nitron

I’m planning on modifying my G80 RWD into a track focused build and wanted to get other people’s opinions on whether I should go with Nitron or KW V5 Clubsport (supposedly getting released by EOM). I see that Team Schirmer has a Nitron kit, but I could also get some of those same parts from SPL.

To be clear, it will not be a dedicated track car. I still plan to keep it street legal, mostly. So I’m guessing the KW Racing would not be suitable for the street.

And if there are other suggestions, like an aftermarket big brake kit, aero, tune, etc I’d love to hear people’s thoughts. Thank you!

I suggest also give MCS shocks a look! I don’t have first hand experience with them but I’ll have their 1WNR shocks on the g80 this fall. Been hearing nothing but praises and you get fabulous product support in the US

From observation in the F87 forums I'd say MCS if your in the US and Nitron if your in EU unless you have a shop with support from KW.

The KW V5 Clubsport is designed for use with semi-slicks, and it's going to be way too stiff for street tires on track, let alone street tires on the street... Definitely get something that's more street/track hybrid if it's not going to be track only. You'll also save a ton of money. +1 for MCS or JRZ.

I have a set of MCS 3 ways being built. It was that or Nitron. I was on V3 and for a daily they are fine but for the track they are lacking.

I am also in Austin so everything I have done or tested has been at COTA.

Agree on the V5, much too aggressive for the street.

Nitron has just opened up a US office local to our facility. Production will remain in UK and US bound kits will be assembled in the States.

As we are an authorized Nitron dealer, look for G8X kits to hit our website shortly.

Thanks for the info. What made you decide MCS over Nitron? One thing I like about Nitron is that I can specify stroke length. I have a driveway that won’t take kindly to too low of a ride height so I may not be able to go more than .5 to .75 inches lower than stock. It’s that or ramps and high tire pressures to get it into my garage.

Are you feeling SPL for the remainder of the setup?

To be frank I just choose the mcs because I was able to get them quicker. I also have the common steep Austin driveway and have to approach it at aggressive angle.

The MCS kit purchased comes with custom swift springs, Vorslag camber plates and SPL tierod links.

I had the SPL lower control arms but had many issues with them and they were also super noisy and I do daily the car.

But to your original question I don’t think you can go wrong with either setup.

Side note. Get the brake cooling kit from speed engineering in Germany. It’s a pad saver on COTA.

Good info to know. Thank you. Thoughts on rotors and pads for track? I have CCB and will reuse existing calipers. GiroDisc is close to development but not here yet

I am using cobalt pads with stock rotors and castrol SRF at the moment. Most of us here are waiting on either giro disc or AP to release a full front and rear kit.

What tire are you running? I'm running RE71RS 285 square and almost feel like they can't keep up with these pads. Really dig these pads though!

I’ve been on r888r but have apex wheels with RE71rs coming. The pads are great and have lasted for 2 events so far. I probably have one more weekend with them.

Can I ask what issues you ran into with lower control arms? I’m about to do MCS 3 way and full spherical spl.

Yes. I would run out of articulation at full lock. This caused scoring in the metal and horrendous noises even with normal driving.

Note this was an early set and they may have revised them but for me it was enough to take them off and just do camber plates.

Interesting. I’m going to pass that info along to the shop that is doing the work for me. Again, appreciate you sharing.

Have you tried the speed engineering generic brake cooling for the rear axle?
