What do you all think about continuing to drive the M3? I checked and my car is affected. It drives fine currently, but don't want to mess it up by continuing to drive it. My car is my main mode of transport, so I would need to find another vehicle if I can't drive this car. I feel OK driving it for now, but maybe I shouldn't? What do you all think?

I appreciate it, and I feel for anyone else in this situation. It sucks. I feel worse for the people that have taken delivery of the cars that are affected, because they really have no options. Im sure BMW doesnt have the manning, but id be happier if they sent engine specialists to repair the affected problem. Or, offer that extended warranty. And for me, since my VIN isnt listed, but I fall in that window, I get no guarantee, for anything.

LOL. I think I said I would keep driving the car in my post. I was simply asking the forum their opinion as I have no idea what the consequences of needing to replace the main bearing shell means. I got your thoughts on the matter loud and clear, thanks!

Lol sorry. The thread seems to be spiraling out of control. Others may feel differently but I think we need to wait and see before getting worked up.

If the engine blows up I'd rather it happened quickly and get a brand new engine or a full refund rather than bearing replaced by god knows who I wonder will this issue grow legs in to all cars that have already been produced. Seems strange. Maybe there was a bad batch of parts during specific weeks, who knows |

Ive dealt with crank bearing issues with other motors. If anyone remembers the DSMs, back in the mid 1990s, the motors had crank walk issues. And they never did figure out what was causing it. You wouldnt know until the crank walked to one side, and the pulley knocked the sensor off, and the car just stalled. But, like KnightedBMW said, the thread is getting out of hand. Im just adding to the conspiracy theories.

Week 30. I certainly don’t want my car wrenched on to a major extent, period.
Very unhappy about this.

If this really is a wholesale main bearing replacement, I would personally refuse delivery unless the entire engine was swapped. This is probably limited to a specific batch of engines and the exposure maybe limited but this is still a major snafu by BMW if this actually is what we think it is based on this limited information.

No worries! I absolutely love my M3 too. I look for any excuse to go and take my car out for a spin. I can't think of any car I would rather have right now. I'm with you. I'm going to go ahead and drive it like I never read this thread for now. At least everything is under warranty, and my dealership has some nice M loaners...

I checked both sites and 0 recall atm. But that may can change days from now? I was told by my local dealership, the dealership I bought the car from, and BMW Ag that my car is not affected as of right now. Did you checked your vin on the sites? At this point, I don't know what to do either. Picking it up Monday or Tuesday. [IMG][/IMG] |

I'm also showing the engine stop sale/potential recall. Just passed 100 mi on my g82x on the way back from the ppf/ceramic job. Talk about highs and lows in the same day.
Trying to remain zen until we know a bit more, but obviously not great, and if the more extreme scenarios play out, how can they actually make it right given repair times, long term reliability/performance, depreciation if this becomes a 'known' issue, etc.? |
