Electronic Parking Brake and Swapping to Track Pads?
I recently saw a You Tube video where someone was swapping brake pads on an X3M with an electronic parking brake - looked like a royal pain-in-the-a$$.
What are people's thoughts on swapping out to track pads on the G8x? It seems like many other performance cars are going to electronic parking brakes as well - so people who like to go to the track just might have to forget about the good old days of quickly swapping out brake pads - unless you're ok with tracking increasingly-older cars... |

Depending on the type of e brakes
https://mechanicbase.com/brakes/chan...parking-brake/ BMW use the type with a electric motor that connects to each calliper so track rats are screwed unless we are willing to run a dual purpose pads |

If I get one for the track it won't even do one day with the stock brake setup
This does sound like a PITA for people who do a lot of dual duty |

I've been a loyal M3 customer for years now - and one of the things I love about my F80 is how easy it is to swap pads back and forth. Unless BMW or someone else comes up with a practical solution to this issue - I'll consider other manufacturers for my next track car (whether or not a dual-purpose daily driver). |

There has been a trend in the last few years to build gigantic front calipers with little itty bitty rear ones. I don't get it. One could think it's limited to BMWs (X5M, M5, G8X M) but it isn't. I recall seeing the ceramic rotors with sliding rear calipers in the C63 and Merc GT. |

So I guess the question is - what cars are in production now that would still have easily-swappable pads? Any examples quickly come to mind? I could be mistaken - but I believe the C8 and 2020 GT500 have E brakes in rear from the rear brake calipers - which I would hope would allow for easy repair as swaps...

It was a pain in the ass on my Golf R, expect a process similar to this with the new M3/4.

Although I don't like the styling of the G8x, S58 sure beats a hybrid or, gasp!, electric M. Well unless they make something remarkable like using the starter motor as a KERS type thing and call it a hybrid. |

The M2c brakes were an upgrade over the M3/4 ones even if they were harder to swap pads into. The F8X ones also work on the track and I'm sure the G8X ones will as well. |

Speaking of track pads, does anyone know the pad shape for the G80?

I for one sure hope that this changes and soon with G80/82 drivers looking for track focused pads. BMW G80/G82 Pad#s: Front 34-10-8-093-705 Rear 34-20-8-093-728 Addendum: Has anyone else been thinking about this as we get closer to break in, and the lure of the track becomes overpowering? And while I am at it, I will throw in stainless steel brake lines. Here I am assuming that the brake lines for the X3M/X4M, and perhaps the F90 M5 will probably fit the G8XX as well, but I cannot find a single company that makes these in stainless. Anyone out there have info?

This is a video showing how.. This is the tool that I bought which is similar and works on my 2018 M5 https://www.amazon.com/OrionMotorTec...09120692&psc=1 I used the procedure from the video that you linked the first three times. I got so sick of it, that I said there MUST be a better way to do it. There is. Watch that first video I linked. SOMEBODY will eventually make an affordable electronic tool that will retract the pistons. The dealer's tool can do it for sure. Shawn |

After 3400 miles, and one track day that I tried using MDM and DSC never again they rely heavily on rear brake use |
