I am glad they are moving away from the current M4 taillights.
Current M4 taillights always reminded me of the ILX's. |

First of all, we should all appreciate the effort OP has gone into to bring us this render; he/she/it didn't have to, but did so for our pleasure.
So thank you, OP. Secondly, next year this time, this is likely what people will say when you drive by at a blistering pace in a M4 CSL: Damn, that M4 is fast, and look at the poise, and BTW EVO just announced this car to be their PCOTY 2022. Yes there is every chance they will also remark on the looks of this car, but in my book, it'll be the performance they'll be talking about far more than the looks. Let's see which one of us is right in a year, or five years' time.

I'm admittedly not a big fan of the G82 design. However, this looks to be an improvement to the rear. I need to see a front shot, but it's a step in the right direction. I'm sure the performance will be insane.
Nice work on the render, OP. |

I hate to disappoint you but the Honda Civic has already been invented.
Also, is that supposed to be a license plate bracket or a clam breather? I have never seen one pointed up at the sky, unless you're trying to make it easier for law enforcement aircraft to read your plate from the air. How thoughtful of you. Best wishes and Happy New Year. |

The CSL looks like it's going to rectify the issues that affected street use of an M4 GTS (which was as divisive of a modern car as there has been lately): - No manually adjusted front splitter which was too low - Rear wing is gone in favor of a ducktail - No water injection system that was slightly annoying to refill. We'll just have to see how it rides. The GTS had a manually adjustable track suspension while the last two CS cars had active dampers. The assumption is it will ride great the way the last two CS cars have. If it does, probably another instant classic. But could BMW ditch active dampers in favor of passive dampers to save weight? That would be a shocker wouldn't it? They did say the CSL cars were for the track, and you have to find 100kg weight savings from somewhere. Deleting back seats saves only about 50 pounds. |

Idk if they will look like this, but the render really looks to me like a Supra… anyone else see that, or is it just me?

Doesn't help that it's blue with gold wheels in classic Subaru fashion

The comparisons to some asian cars may have a point, but that was already the case with the taillights on the current G82. However, I like this CSL taillight design better. In that respect, it would be a welcome improvement.
Actually, it kinda reminds me of the taillight design on the current X5. Last edited by Art__Vandelay; 01-01-2022 at 06:23 AM.. |

That rear look is very underwhelming. IMO

Great job on the render OP. Looks good - I think I like it more than standard.

We won't have a great view of G8X demand until supply normalizes, which honestly might not happen until the LCI. |

Great render.
My fear for this car is that like the M4 GTS it will be effectively too harsh for street driving per it's remit to be 100% track focused. Going by the comments in the EVO 2021 where the M5CS (and the M2CS before it) were noted for their ride comfort improvement over the harsher Comp specs - I can see the M3/M4 CS winning EVO COTY 2023 and the M4 CSL missing out on EVO COTY 2022 for predictable reasons. Will be very happy to be proven wrong as 3/3 for M will make us all happy campers. |
