ACM | Brookylin Grey G80 Build

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
It is hard to remember a more controversial introduction than the G8x has received. While press photos took people by surprise, including ourselves, we held our reservations until we saw it in person, keeping the faith that BMW's M division would deliver.

We were open to colors for both the exterior and interior, our only stipulations were for it to have four doors and three pedals. So when the chance to get a Brooklyn Grey over black, manual G80 popped up, we jumped on it.

BG has a beautiful metallic flake that doesn't translate in photos. In person it really highlights and changes the tones depending on the lighting conditions. For the interior, as epic as the carbon buckets are, we have some ideas floating around in our heads and we would've felt bad removing them from the car, so nothing lost with the base ones (which are remarkably comfortable!)

After about 150 very impressive miles, the first order of business is to rip some components out of it for R&D. We will be updating this thread with all of its progress. Thanks for checking in and stay tuned for more!

We got the car over to a local cars and coffee this past weekend where it received lots of positive feedback by people of all automotive backgrounds who were seeing it for the first time.

And side by side with my E90

Does Brooklyn Grey have a subtle little bit of blue in the paint? It looks like it does in these pics. The color really seems to suit the styling of the G80.Nice color.

Big fan of Brooklyn Gray in these shots! Curious how ACM would compare the color to Hockenheim Silver. It's clearly darker.

It would be very interesting to see how the rear 20" OEM wheels/tires fit in the front.

BG looks great on these pictures. I should have stayed longer at the café's lot to see it in person yesterday morning.

Why didn't you get competition version?

I noticed tuners get regular model, wouldn't it make sense to start off with more power right off the bat?

Because real cars come with three pedals. They pretty much said as much in their original post "our only stipulations were for it to have four doors and three pedals".

This has to be meant to be a little facetious. A PDK GT3 or a 458 Speciale is not a real car?

Not facetious. I learned to drive on a manual, and have mostly owned manual transmission cars. To me, driving an automatic is like playing a video game. Gas - go, break - stop, wheel - steer. Real cars require real control of the engine and the only thing that truly gives a driver control of the engine is the clutch. I am buying the M3 with the manual transmission. To argue that the automatic has "more power" is true, but an argument that falls flat with me because the "more power" is not controlled by the driver.
