Looks like the M side mirrors are gone! The engine on this thing will be interesting to wait and watch!

This is a very early test car so some of the design and parts may be unfinished at the moment.

The wheels intrigue me a bit, though. They don't look like normal parts been type wheels, almost JDM looking.

...and the rears look way too narrow for a top-dog M car. I'm guessing this is more of a 5-series test mule for the M5 powertrain without the chassis modifications.

???

What changed? There was serious talk of a next generation pure EV M5 with 1K+ HP, pouch style batteries, etc. This seems like a half step in that direction, but not a full commitment as BMW previously announced.

Agree! Those headlights surely wont be remotely close to the final, mirrors seem unlikely, wheels definitely not, etc. I would guess this is more about testing the electric and ICE together but I also dont know what I am talking about here (lol). Definitely interested to know if it's a V6 or V8 they go with in the end.

There was talks of two different M variants of the M5, a pure EV and a gas hybrid model. Technically the EV version would be an i5 M and the gas model the "traditional" M5 nomenclature.

GOD DAMN IT!....BMW PLEASE design a rear brake caliper that has a design similar to the front and still incorporate your beloved electronic parking brake. Mercedes is listening to their customers.

This will sell like crazy. The hybrid set up will make this an incredibly fast car. Especially if we end up with 750hp combined. At the rate we are increasing power, in 10 years the M5 will have two wings and fly. :

It's a looker, for sure.

But every time I read bigger, wider, longer, whatever expansion direction I shake my head a little. When (if ever) will that trend stop?

It was the wheels that made me think to myself, "is this even a BMW?"

Looks very promising, something I haven't said about a new model in a while. Seems they may actually make the body lines more aggressive for this generation, something I think they may be forced to do since that will become more of a differentiator between non-M and M models in the future EV world.

Very interested to see BMWs take on a Performance-Oriented hybrid.

I plan to finally take delivery of my 2022 M5C next month (after many delays) and will be asking the dealer if they can put me on the preliminary list for one of the first individual next-Gen M5s

I'd imagine at some point (probably the M5 gen after the next one) the models will converge and it will just be an M5. There's no way they toss that legendary model designation / nameplate in a full electric future.

Actually, I'd be extremely surprised if we ever see i5 M on the back of a BMW. That model designation would mean nothing to no one. I think we'd probably see a M5i.

Seeing how we have the i4 M50 which is essentially the EV version of the M440i, all electric vehicles (even those based on gas models) will feature an "i" first in their nomenclature followed by the series number than its trim designation, similar to X vehicles nomenclature, the M will be last.
