When the public is now allowed to test drive these cars in Europe it can’t be long until professionals get their turn as well. I hope...

Real reviews with real drivers please. This video looks like a hedge against the internet calling it fat.

So less sound deadening equals more road/wind noise, right? Hmm

I think Sakhir orange looked more red than TR.

Was hoping they'd show what we really want to know - how it's braking and cornering compares to the F82.
Braking distances, cornering G's, how hot the brakes get on track.. those are the real concerns with the extra weight.

Anyway still good to see it's not actually that much heavier, it does give me some optimism. The wider wheelbase should help handling further even though I'm not loving the larger size.

I wonder how much weight the auto trans adds?

How many lbs do you guys think CF seats, ceramic brakes, and forged wheels will save? (Each item individually if you guys know- I think they said 10kg for the seats).

Here's my goal- If I can get an AWD Comp ZAF to be with as little tech and leather options as possible, and with the above options- do you think I can get it to be approx 3,800 lbs curb weight?

The removal of sound deadening is baffling to me. Tire roar and wind noise do not make the car feel 'raw', it makes it feel cheap and tiring on a cruise. Cruising is what these cars will be doing 90pc of the time. On track you wear a helmet anyway so it's meaningless. The M2 suffers from this to the point it actually drowns out exhaust and engine sound. It barely saves any weight either.

A G82 competition specced like the car in this video should be 3741 lbs adding BMWs numbers of weight delta base to comp. Add ~120 lbs for AWD and you are at 3860 lbs. You can maybe shave off another 10 lbs or so making 3850 possible but I think 3800 flat is going to be tough.

At least 3850 would keep a 500 lbs gap to the M5...

Until last week we our pessimistic forum members where saying the G80 AWD will only be a couple hundred lbs lighter than the F90 M5. I feel much better at a 500 lbs delta (3 passengers)

Bullshit comparison of weight. Heaviest trim of F82 vs. lightest trim of G8x. In what world is this fair?

It was never meant to be fair, he clearly stated: -Here is a DCT equipped F82 and here is an MT G82 in a very light configuration to show what is possible...no hiding or sneakiness.

He followed up with if you are a weight purist get the MT.

Does the video actually cast any light on the weight of the G8X AWD which many are waiting for? Seems like forum members are guessing based on their personal preferences. Imo, we shall just have to wait. As mentioned before, BMWblog below is a blog favouring BMW.

"So what’s the actual difference in weight between the old and the new car? Unfortunately, BMW M didn’t do an apples-to-apples comparison but the weight difference still isn’t as great as some enthusiasts may have thought. The old F82 BMW M4 used in this weight comparison was equipped with a DCT transmission, while the new G82 BMW M4 had a much lighter six-speed manual. The old car weighed 1,640 kg (3,615 lbs), while the new manually-equipped, rear-wheel drive car tipped the scales at 1,674 kg (3,690 lbs). That’s obviously not a big increase but BMW M did fail to mention something.

The G82 BMW M4 used in this video was the lightest possible M4 possible, being a manual, rear-wheel drive car. When equipped with the eight-speed automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive and the standard seats, the G82 M4 gets actually crests just north of the 1,800-ish (4,000 lb) mark. So, yes, the manual M4 is barely heavier than the old M4 and that’s very good, if properly equipped. But the majority of M3 and M4 customers will get the auto/all-wheel drive car and those cars are significantly heavier (some markets, such as the UK, will only be getting those versions for now)."

Still a misleading comparison, which continues to cast a shadow for the sceptics.

BMW should have been more transparent with all of the technical info from the onset of the G8X release. Too little, too late. They now seem to be in catch up mode, which is usually not a good place to be.

See what they gave us for the F8X:
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 1): The new M Servotronic.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 2): The Brake Systems.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 3): The new engine.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 4): Sound and Exhuast System.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 5): smartly light, rigid, precise.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 6): The new chassis.
BMW M3 and BMW M4 Inside (part 7): The Active M differential.

Noone asking why this thread is in this photos, videos and builds sub-forum? Shouldn't it move to the main forum?

He stated in the video that the standard seats will add 10kg. Also the official BMW M account responded to a Facebook comment stating that the Competition model with ZF8 will add only 25kg. We still don't know if the weighed car had the carbon ceramics so not having those will also add some kg's.

Here's the quote on the M4C extra weight:
"Yes. The BMW M4 Competition with M Steptronic comes with +25kg and +30 hp -> an even better performance to weight ratio."

As others, guessing the build/specs (how loaded) of the F82 and the G82 in the video, plus noone knows for a fact the additional weight of the AWD G82. Any explanation of the BMWblog article (which refers to the video) stating that it's gonna be a 4000 lb car? (BMWblog has special priviledges from BMW btw.)
