Basically, every video to date it sounds better, even on cold-start, it is deeper and less raspy than F80.

If you ever owned an N54 car you’ll know that not all 3L twin turbo BMW I6 motors sound alike...

And as someone noted, it looks like BMW has worked on achieving equal length exhaust for the G8X. (There’s an under carriage picture here that show the exhaust from the rear cylinders manifold being routed in a u shape mid car to lengthen it.

It was probably more:

“Audi and Mercedes and Lexus have grills that are just as big (or even bigger), and they are selling just fine, especially in China where big grills are popular. I’m sure BMW buyers will be just as accepting and not blow up the internet over us making grills that are similar in size to what our competitors have successfully been selling for years, right? BMW buyers aren’t all going to complain and illogically threaten to jump ship to one of those brands who are selling similar grills...”

Basically, I think BMW overestimated their customers.

That cluster design is horrid especially in M. These cars share so many parts now it's just copy paste between models and cost cutting. CEO and owners have lost their minds. Go chase your posers! Hope you lose billions in sales!!

Good point. I believe the G80 M3 is only 4 or so inches shorter and actually 1/2" wider than my dear departed F10 M5, although it is considerably lighter.

God bless,

Feels like a stopgap car using off the shelf parts while we wait for the inevitable electrification of everything mass produced.

This will sell and attract the leasing crowd looking for the latest and greatest at first, no doubt about it. It's a better value prop than financing a used F8X when all is considered - yet that 1,800kg weight figure is bonkers.

That's E39 M5 heavy, and nearly E60 M5 V10 weight.

There are more twin turbo 6 cylinder cars that sound way better than the f80 than I can count lol.

I'm actually a fan of the s55 noise to an extent. I give it a 6.5/10, if the s58 was a 7.5. Nothing from bmw really sounds like AMG level anymore or the SVR exhaust noises from UK (jag and RR)

Yes exactly... I get that everyone is excited that someone is getting the change to drive this thing in the wild, but nothing comprehensive here.

We also don't know the OP's frame of reference. He drives an F80, but how much experience does he have driving other cars, notably legendary M3 models like the E46 and E9X? What about the M2 which we all regard as BMW's gold standard in the current age?

He very well could be quite experienced, but there's nothing written on that and very little specifics on how the G80 actually drives.

Exactly, I had the opportunity to see and listen the new M4 in person and I can confirm that it sounds deeper and less raspy than the S55, and also louder than my M2 Competition (obviously both with OPFs).
And yes, I loved how it looks and sounds in person.

Turbo lag is all relative. Some feel huge lag from the S58 equipped X3MC while a lot owners of it like to think no lag at all.

Please be more specific and compare it to the G3/4M and/or the F8X, from a dig and roll, from low rpm and middle to high ones, impartially and without bias.
