The front of the 4 series looks better IMO. Too many weird lines on the M and the bumper vent placement looks better on the non-M

Yikes

Looking forward to it replacing the aging M6...sucks IMSA GTLM is basically dead since I enjoyed that segment most...guess I'll be waiting for the g8x GTD cars

The F8x looks so old now I've seen so many pics of the G80. Going to be incredibly dated once these hit the road!

The car looks bloated because designers should have known that when the car gets bigger you don't soften the lines so the car looks bloated. They should have refined the lines to make the car look slimmer and more muscular instead of softer and bulbous.

..I still feel the execution of the new grille on the G82 is more integrated into the design than the G22... Subjective, but the G82 feels more cohesive to me.

Perception is reality regarding the cars looking bloated. What's the curb weight again?

I think this is a very strong point. The F8X got larger and the strong classic BMW lines kept it looking very handsome.

I simply think BMW has reached an inflection point similar to their transition from the E36/E39 era into the Bangle era. They feel they've done everything they could with their styling theme during the 2010s and want to shake things up now. Remember how the Bangle cars became more rounded as well? The E60 5-series was a straight up blob.

Collectively though the G-era of BMW's styling is worse than Bangle in my eyes. The only truly bad Bangle cars in my opinion were the E60 and pre-LCI E65. However currently BMW is making a bunch of ugly-to-unconventional looking cars and everything in between. The 4, M3/4, 2 Gran Coupe, 7er front end, Z4, X1, X4, X6 all come to mind.

I don't really like the front end but I'm more concerned about the car being heavier and with a huge foot print. We don't need another M5.

It's unbelievable how people complain about the new grilles that haven't;

a) seen the car in person
b) driven the car

There's a lot more to the G8x than just the grille design.

I've seen the car in person. Waiting to take one on the track. It's ugly, and right now I don't like how big and heavy it's gotten. It will make fast cruiser, but that's not what I am looking for in an M3/4. That's what an M5 is for.

Been a part of this forum for many years and many M models, I've loved every single one for their own reasons. I had high hopes for the g8x but it's not for me personally. I saw it in person in Miami, and I just don't like it. It's not even about the grille, but not getting into that. If you like it, buy it and enjoy it in good health. Life's short, there will always be a keyboard warrior somewhere that needs pretend ego boosts, there's no correct side here. I'll always be a bmw fan, and I will be excited to see the x-drive g8x numbers for sure

Such disdain for this car.

I hope it ends up like the CTR. Universally panned for looks, universally praised for its driving.

There's sufficient cause for concern. The F8X was already very numb and un-engaging to drive relative to M3 models from the past. Journalists and enthusiasts alike felt very lukewarm toward the car. Then the G8X comes along gaining 350+ lbs and becoming an even larger car. This isn't blind negativity, these are factual facts pertaining to the G8X.

I get what your saying however my question is a) have you driven the G8x, and b) have you seen it in person? If not then how can one make assumptions based on simply looking at pics? Yes it has grown in size and weight and looks are subjective but I wouldn't write it off just yet or at least until I've tested it myself. In saying that personally if I was looking to buy an M car I would choose M2 any day over the F80/82 or G8x, however, I can see many enthusiasts going for the G8x due to its unique design, and its performance capability

It seems like the goal of BMW here is to tap into buyers of muscle cars like the mustang, camaro, etc...and leave behind BMW buyers of yesteryears...

No longer are they appealing to those that sought classic design with a hint of aggressiveness that wanted a sporty daily driver. Feels like the G8x is about straight line speed and aggressive design like American muscle cars. It's a weird transition.

Sales numbers will be interesting...even more interesting would be to see how many buyers BMW lost vs 1st time BMW buyers gained. I have a hard time believing that will be a net positive...but I guess that's the gamble here.
