Will it mainly be accepted as an advancement of the M3 concept or a betrayal? This saga isn’t over yet

It is has been such an odd release. The week of release - lots of vids/pics and various marketing but nothing substantial about how the car drives. Then complete silence for 3 months?

This site is completely dead, very little new info to discuss, seemingly very little excitement or buzz.

My dealer has a comp incoming in 5 weeks and they have open allocations for customers to take, but I have not seen Davit Grey or Tanzanite on a G80. Not a single pic of the of the standard wheels and zero driving impressions in English since Schmee who only drove a pre-production version.

Also with a new CF seat we do not have any road impressions of how they feel while driving, only impressions of sitting in a parked car.

Porsche flew GT3 cars to journalists in LA and will have full driving reviews before the launch with reviews incoming in the next 2 weeks months before allocations are open. Why BMW is holding back reviews when there are open allocations for a car that was launched 3 months ago, seems poorly planned.

1000% this.

Potential buyers are even bailing based on the only thing available, paper numbers and the one performance metric available, a disappointing match of the F8X 0-60 time...
Extremely poor campaign this far BMW.

All I've seen from BMW for this car is cringeworthy marketing fluff. No substance.

I am one of those. The marketing campaign as a whole gave me the clear impression that I am no longer the target audience for the M3/4. Regarding performance, it's not only 0-60, but also a quoted in gear acceleration that is SLOWER than the F8X for the 6MT, which shares the same gearing as the G8X, pointing to a laggier engine. I was on the fence regarding the G8X, the marketing campaign definitely pushed me over to the other side.

The access has gone to the influencers. Personally, I do not trust their reviews and observations as much as the automotive journalists. If you are not coming off of lease, there is not much incentive to purchase with so much TBD.

My dealer is a little surprised I am not taking an open slot, because I had told them if a manual sedan is available I will purchase, but with styling that is worse than the G20, I want to know it drives extremely well.

Also worth note, surprisingly they are not the only game in town for us die-hard manual buyers, the CT5/4 V's are coming soon in manual. I do not really want to buy a GM car, but BMW has not gone a good job keeping me in the fold.

Well, I 'bit' and am looking forward to experiencing how the G80 looks and performs in person . . . compared to my M2C that I have enjoyed so much.

I am curious to know if BMW has offered any explanation as to why they have not allowed any driving reviews of G80/82 to date?

By no means me being a smart-ass when I say, I am giving up my M2C to see what the G80 M3C is all about.

Personally, I think cars are plenty fast right now. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are esoteric at this point when driving on the street and in some ways take away from the driving enjoyment since the cars are so quick.

I hope that the G8x makes the same leap in driving dynamics that the F90 did compared to the F10. After owning both generation M5's the F10 was my least favorite BMW in a long list of them. The F90 was one of my favorites. It was a much more engaging car even though performance was very similar to the previous generation.

Interesting, the F10 was not only the least favorite BMW I’ve owned it was my least favorite car period, dumped it after 6 months. Cautiously approaching the prospect of an F90 now...

Coming from the Porsche lineup, my first BMW has been the M2C . . . my next BMW will be the G80 M3C set for production.

I tend to have some great games of 'chase' on the Daytona roadways with a local M5C that LOOKS pretty new to my eye. I know little to nothing about the M3 and M5 models compared to the M2C. . . I do know the M5C goes like hell.

I am wondering what the difference is between the M3 and M5 at this point? The M5C looks about the same, if not even a little smaller in size than the G80 M3.

Dedicated to the forummers who will be relying on (first drive) reviews of the G80 but negative of the F10 M5

"Without a doubt, the new 2012 BMW M5 is better than its predecessor in every way"https://www.motortrend.com/cars/bmw/...5-first-drive/

https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showpo...15&postcount=1

These forummers are probably dismissive of Chris Harris ... lol

They're probably still working on their manufacturing process and haven't produced any. Or maybe they're waiting till close to launch to generate buzz and drive up sales.

I'm still very much excited about the car...but it does seem odd that our first driving reviews may come from actual forum members here when they start taking delivery soon!

And I'm already tired of seeing SPY and IOMG at all these dealer/event showcases. I get that they're the promoted launch colors, but it would have been nice to see more colors in the flesh by now.

BMW did not focus on weight reduction this time. Instead they focused on traction and grip. That is IMO the main advancement of the G8X generation. AWD + wider front tires and front track. We are also getting a healthy power bump which we did not get with the F8X. And I suspect that is why we got the weight work on the F8X, BMW couldn’t get the expected (by us the consumer) HP bump out of the S55.
Cadillac is in the new CT* cars that will likely drive and sound better than the new M cars.

I am not sure why BMW is holding up the driving reviews . . . but I think the G80/82 will be awesome performers.

Better than my M2C??? . . . Look forward to finding out.

Hate the looks of the G8X so I bought the M5 which looks great in my opinion! Enjoy your ugly cars!

A guy losing his mind in a fully decked out M Performance car no doubt took a bit of budget.

I'm sure there's nothin to hide and it will be very well reviewed, just that it's taking it's time.
