The 911 is not a practical daily driver and the back seats are useless, so not sure that you can compare the M4/M3 with a 911 two completely different cars.

While we are at it..

718 GTS 4.0 6MT with comfort access is only like 6k more than my almost base M3 6MT build.

The closest Porsche comparison to an ~$85KUSD loaded M3/4 X-Drive competition in terms of overall power and performance will be the base $122KUSD Carrera 4S. The 100-200kmh top end acceleration (the truest measure of power and acceleration) for the 4700lbs BMW X3M Comp on the German Autobahn in 10.14s and the 992 Carrera does it in 10.18s. So in terms of top end, the base 992 has the same performance as an X3M. The G8X is going to weight about 700lbs less with better aerodynamics, so the same powertrain should easily be in the 8's for 100-200kmh which would be in league with the 992C4S.

All that aside, there should be no argument that the true direct German competitors to this car in terms of chassis configuration, powertrain, drivetrain, driving dynamics and overall use scenario are the C63S (front engine multipurpose track/daily driver platform, similar power/weight/price no AWD) and the RS5 (front engine multipurpose track/daily driver platform, similar weight/price/AWD but down on power).

The 992, like all cars in the rear engine class, would arguably not be considered a true daily driver due to lack of rear seating and poor interior/small frunk utility space. APPLES AND ORANGES... GTFO WITH YOUR COMPLETELY INANE COMPARISON, I NEED TO GO TAKE A TYLENOL.
Just a small observation the M177 engine on the C63 & C63 S is really not a perfect track engine as it has no dry sump pump, only the M178 engine for the AMG GT cars have the dry sump pump and also the 2.9 v6 engine of the RS5 also has no dry sump pump. On the other hand the S58 engine is truly a track ready engine able to with stand high G forces under hard braking and on small radius bends.

How is a second hand Porsche that's way into its warranty even a comparison to a brand new M4. The mental gymnastics people do on this forum.
You can split the grille moaners into 3 categories -
1. People that can afford a Porsche and for some reason have to keep telling us all they are getting one instead (no one cares FYI to you).
2. People that can't afford a Porsche and need to compare second hand or poverty spec models to a fully loaded M4/M3.
3. Miserable people that need to moan and argue instead of accepting and moving on.

My theory is they don't like change, which is what the new M3 and M4 is, so they go to a nice safe option of a Porsche, which has not and probably never will change its design.

Go buy a Porsche if you can't accept the new design, the grille is not changing and we won't miss you here. I truly hope you love whatever car you get instead and it makes you happy, just stop trying to suck the joy out of everyone that loves the design and direction of the new G8X models, some of us love it and love talking to others about it without the constant rhetoric in every damn thread
I hear you and feel you man.

No it's not, at least in the US. We all like 911s and the new 718 GTS but let's not be delusional in evaluating their value compared to a G80.

718 GTS 4.0 is $88,950 with comfort access and nothing else.
M3 6MT with metallic paint, upgrade wheels, carbon interior, and exec pack is $9600 less at $79,345 and I wouldn't call that "almost base".

Additionally very soon there will be discounts on the M3, BMW leases are comparably cheap if that's your thing, and there will not be discounts on the 718 GTS. And don't forget the 718 GTS is competition for the M2, not M3 and that price gap is at least $27k.

Do you fall into JCali86 category #2? Next you guys are gonna say the Earth is flat and QAnon is right.

He hates how the car looks like and tries to talk it down with "objective" arguments.
That's all about.

That's why i jumped out of the discussion because he just puts the arguments like he wants even though he compares apples with oranges instead of comparing with the direct competitors in which BMW, ironically, is the cheapest.

You must also consider the conditions of purchase (discount, leasing rates).
On this, Bmw is "cheaper" (lol) than the list price suggests compared to Porsche.
There's nothing wrong with paying more for a better car, but you can't compare them.

Black Sapphire G82 M4 at the dealer

Tell me about it, mine is being born this summer, G80 M3 wasn't even in my mind before knowing it

@Transfer I was being sarcastic, I also hate it when ppl compare things that don't.

And I also forgot to say "where I live", its surprising how the price of cars is different from country to country.

Have my golf clubs/groceries and still smoke the new M cars. LOL It will suck getting rid of my M4 cause I do like it. Maybe an AWD M car will be in my future

Well I'm glad you all feel so strongly, it's great to have passion and to have different opinions. I wasn't trying to be purposefully antagonistic (guess it comes naturally) I'm sure the new m3 & m4's will be great cars in their own right and I'm sure those of you with a vested interest will continue to have these conversations in various threads (not with me I might add) but I'm glad that a portion of the community is still passionate about the new cars and their looks and are willing to defend it, we ultimately need people like you to continue supporting the brand as developer of driver oriented performance cars, especially for this generation of cars. I hope like an inbred cousin, that the current designs are a generational blip and it changes to something more to my tastes in time for my next upgrade. I guess I can always rely on Alpina if not. Good luck with your purchases and many more argumentative sods like me that are to come! Enjoy

I always love reading how everybody is jumping to a Porsche, but few actually ever do (...props to the few that have). After all, for as long as I've been on BMW forums, that phenomenon has existed. It's just fodder. The sticker shock jumping from an M to the equivalent P-Car is mind blowing. I personally wouldn't want anything less than a GT2/3, otherwise I'll stick to M's.

I feel most people get the best car they can afford, usually. You don't buy an M4 because you like it better than a GT3! If you need 4 doors then I get it. If you can afford a GT3 your most likely buying that right off the jump. Why would you even look at the BMW? If you could afford a 458/488 Ferrari you get that and not the Porsche. I always like having 2 cars. I could do a GT3 for what I have in my 2 cars combined, but not what I like to do.

I agree, which is why I chuckle at the comments. Outside of familial needs, as you've already mentioned, if one can buy the P-Car from day one, they usually do. I know if I could afford a new 6MT GT3, I would not be in a BMW. The people claiming they'll leave almost never do. There's this threat of mass exodus every new iteration of M.
