ASD/Sound Control Question
Apologies if this has been discussed already (I did search!). I am trying to decide whether to get BimmerCode to code ASD off or not. I’d only do so if “Sound Control Off”, which is my preferred setting, still means there is fake noise via the speakers. I’m guessing that is the case because otherwise, there would be little justification to code it out. To me ASD is clearly on in Sport Plus etc., but I can’t tell if it is so when in Comfort or when deliberately turned off. Perhaps those who did code it out are in the best position to say that doing so made an audible difference. Thank you Bimmerpost G8x community!

So in short I don't have to listen to the synthetic sound inside but also still get the burbles I want. Also to me as I have a manual the synthetic sound bothered me as I was listening to the engine for shifting so that helped as well for myself. I have a full aftermarket exhaust and it drowned out the sound of it somewhat as well. |

Because that button also reduces the real engine sounds. Some like louder real exhaust notes without the artificial ones.

I coded it out and it's much better, now.
As LuckyBrand did/stated, I kept the exhaust button active to maintain burbles. |

In ARM expert mode choose 3001, then choose anything in the list with ASD in the title and make sure it says inactive. That turned off 90% of the ASD for me. If anyone knows how to turn of the other 10% id really like to know!

Disabling ASD removes the fake sound from the speakers and also improves music quality by a bit.
The button controls the exhaust valves. If the valves are closed, the car will be a bit quiter. When the button is lit, it allows the valves openess to be modulated in order to improve exhaust sound and make burbles. |

I hadd it coded out forever, updated to latest software last week and left it on as I wanted to see if I noticed it…I haven’t.
It does have a noise canceling effect

I find the G machines magnificent in most every regard. But the exhaust sound was a disappointment, and ASD makes it 100x worse. I know why they do it, but feel it is a poor decision. Had I kept my beautiful M4, I would have tried the coding method. In the end, there was only one solution for me:

I just confirmed with Bimmercode- the new version in App Store (v 4.2) does NOT require a special link via email from Bimmercode to turn off the ASD. Previously people mentioned that it didn't "complete turn off ASD".

Great news. Does that mean we can now use their built in feature to do it, or do we still need expert mode?

It’s an open question if when it’s “off” if that even means ASD is off. Here’s an old thread I started about it: https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=28491968

I emailed them this week. They told me the most recent update in Bimmercode (v 4.2) no longer requires the Test link emailed to you that other people have posted about. I don't think you need to even go into expert mode anymore to code it off, but Im not 100% bc I don't have the M4 yet.

This is getting annoying. I now have downpipes and the Active Sound Design is super annoying. It’s hard to tell what’s actually coming out from the exhaust.
I’m in idrive 7 and can’t figure it out with bimmercode. They never answered my email. Yes I know there’s a way to get it off 90% but I want it completely gone
