The 958 is based on a VW (Touareg) but most problem parts I experienced are Porsche specific...The 911 is different but it ain't all good. Open the "hood" on a 911 and you quickly understand why services are so expensive. For example try to change spark plugs on a 911 Turbo vs a Cayenne and tell me how that was
Actually my 2019 911 (991.2) C4S was far from bullet-proof and that was bought new, plus doing any work on it (even a simple cold air intake or filter) requires removing the entire rear bumper, 25 torx screws, rear spoiler, mech etc just to get to anything (even the air box).

A few already know this, 2 water pumps went under warranty (1@3k miles, the other @6k miles). One stranded me. Wasn't going to wait to get stranded again. They actually have to disconnect the exhaust at the turbos and lower the engine to get to it. You don't expect that type of junk from a $145k new car.

Can't imagine the service and/or repair cost after the warranty expires. Those water pump jobs would be north of $3500 each.

For me, no, not worth the extra $50k if comparing to a G80/G82. Traded it on the F90 M5C LCI and don't miss the 911 a bit. Don't think I'll ever return to a P-Car. I don't trust them.

I know there are a few P-Car fans on here, your experience might be different. That was mine.

These kinds of experiences highlight the bargain BMW is.

That's really unfortunate. While I think your experience is not widespread, I totally empathize with people getting in their first P-cars and having the issues you had. Self proclaimed 911 lover, Nick Murray lemoned both his 991s. I own the same exact car and its been 20k miles of road trips and 10+ track days without a glitch.

I had been looking at 992s all winter and a decent spec one has become basically GTS/turbo money. The G80 felt like a deal especially new.

I'd be very surprised if that intentional lag was fixed.

The manual reviews that are out say the engine is 'almost lag free'. Take a look at the car and driver one. Quite surprising

One thing that I was expecting to hear about but didn't was any noticeable difference in being down 70 lb ft of torque to the Comp models. In fact the reviews suggested getting the manual. You would think that kind of drop would be noticeable on a road test. I just hope BMW didn't tweak the lower power manual versions to comp levels for the initial roll out reviews.

I'm hoping some guys come out with a software tweak to fix the power difference. There is zero that is different in the engines between comp and non-comp, it's purely software throttling, which is bs

Which doesn't compute as it's the same engine in the X3M who's weak spot is lag off the line and out of gear. Yes the M3 is lighter but with the G weight gain it's not as dramatic as I had originally expected.

it's only a difference in the boost pressure.

I quote car and driver articel:

"If owners of the manual-transmission M3 aspire to Competition-level power output, it sounds like that upgrade would entail nothing more than software. When we asked BMW about the difference between the two engines, the answer was boost: The standard M3 runs a max of 18.9 psi compared to 24.7 psi in the Competition."

should be an easy fix if you really want the same power.

The C&D, Road&Track and Pistonheads reviews were really good
